Operations Manager

Job description
Lion Landscapes is looking for an Operations Manager who is skilled at both planning and executing. You will work with the Director of Conservation Programmes to ensure the programmes and field activities in Laikipia are implemented within the broader Lion Landscapes framework and ethos. You will be working with a team of five core office staff and over 20 auxiliary staff implementing activities across the Laikipia landscape.  
Main responsibilities
General Administration

Lead planning meetings and responsible for administrative tasks such as report writing, permit renewals, procurement, office management and event organisation.

Staff Management

Responsible for staff management from recruitment and onboarding to performance reviews, salary payments and contract renewals.​

Field Operations

Coordination of field activities through weekly work plans.
Responsible for vehicle management (vehicle usage, maintenance, tracking & logbooks) and equipment management (inventory records, maintenance, replacement).

Financial Management

Manage field expenditures (keep records up to date, upload expenses to the accounting software and coordinate payments).
Produce monthly budgets and assist with yearly budget adjustments and liaise with the executive team on other budget-related matters.

External Communication

Develop and maintain stakeholder relationships and manage communication channels.
Support external reporting and grant applications and manage donor visits.
Assist with presentations and development of training documents.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in management, conservation or any other relevant field. 
4 to 6 years management experience, preferably with non-profits and conservation in Kenya. 
Deep knowledge of conservation in Kenya and beyond
Strong experience in managing complex projects with multiple stakeholders and public donors. 
Excellent at supervising staff and growing a productive team
Attention to detail and advanced writing and presentation skills (clear, precise, creative) 
Excellent communication skills both written and oral in English and Swahili
Proficient driving skills and a valid class B driver’s licence. 

Position details

Salaried full-time. Salary depends on experience and background.  
Candidates must be qualified to live and work in Kenya, either as a citizen or resident
Based in Nanyuki, Kenya with travel to other sites and partners in Laikipia and beyond 
Occasionally required to work outside normal office hours to meet deadlines as needed. 
Fixed term contract of 1-year, renewal based on performance and funding.  
Reports to: Director of Conservation Programmes
