Senior Technical Advisor – Global Climate and Health

Summary of Role:  
The Senior Technical Advisor provides technical leadership in the development and implementation of climate change and health programs and projects. This position will engage with the global internal and external ecosystem to maintain cutting edge knowledge of best practices, innovations and evidence in climate change and health.  The Senior Technical Advisor provides technical guidance to advance organizational positioning and support to revenue generation, including leading design of programs and proposals. This position will nurture relationships and work closely with climate change entities, particularly international climate donors (including the Green Climate Fund and US Government/USAID, among others) to promote sustainable initiatives that address the challenges posed by climate change on public health and promote integration of SRHR and wellbeing of communities in climate change programs and projects. The Senior Technical Advisor will provide demand-driven technical assistance to country and global programs, develop, review, and adapt technical materials and strategies, and contribute to the scale-up of best practices.  The Senor Technical Advisor will actively contribute to thought leadership and visibility for the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership and Technical Assistance: 

Provides leadership and technical expertise on climate and health including technical analysis, design, and implementation. Provides strategic technical expertise to project sites on climate and health. Leads in the development of global approaches, tools and materials, supporting tailored approaches for intended populations and ensuring quality.
Provides demand-driven technical assistance to global offices and local partners that is responsive to the needs of intended populations and advances Pathfinder’s strategic positioning.
Support the development of evidence-based interventions to address climate change-related health risks and vulnerabilities.
Builds on existing tools and develops or adapts innovative approaches to ensure the efficiency, acceptability, and impact of climate and health interventions.
Provides technical leadership on the development of communication materials, technical publications and briefs, and other key organizational materials.

Program Design and Proposal Support:

Leads in the design, development and implementation of innovative, effective, country appropriate programming to ensure that we design and deliver high quality, holistic climate and health programming, building on global best practices.
Maintains current knowledge of key donor strategies and priorities to ensure effective integration into program design.
Provides technical support on the development of integrated proposals, including participation in strategizing for technical approach, proposal writing and proposal review.

Thought Leadership, External Engagement, & Visibility:

Engage in strategic positioning with donors, partners and other stakeholders to ensure that Pathfinder is known as a partner of choice for climate change and health.
Represents Pathfinder to external organizations and audiences at professional meetings and conferences as a subject matter expert.
Contributes to, develops, and deepens innovative approaches for climate and health and participates actively in the broader technical community to ensure Pathfinder’s technical visibility, including with key donors.
Supports in the identification of funding opportunities for climate change and health initiatives from various sources, including international climate donors, foundations, and development agencies,

Required Education and Work Experience:

Master’s degree in Public health, Social Science, Environmental Science, Climate Science, or related discipline
Minimum of 8 years’ experience in in public health or environmental health with a focus on climate change
Proven track record of successful project management, strategic leadership, and program design in climate and health
Excellent communication. advocacy, and stakeholder engagement abilities
Strong research and analytical skills.
Experience in stakeholder engagement, resource mobilization, and familiarity with international funding mechanisms
Understanding of the subject matter: global and country specific climate and health Systems,
Deep understanding of climate change financing and global donors.
Public health or related expertise: Knowledge of the linkages between climate change and its impact on health and family planning and SRHR, maternal and child health, nutrition and food security, sanitation, agriculture and/or energy.
Concept and Proposal Development: Advanced skills in climate and health proposal development from concept to full proposal, resource mobilization, and proven ability to raise substantial research/development funds.
Leadership: Advanced skills as a leader in health and climate change.

Preferred Competence and Work Experience:

Minimum 5 years’ experience in global climate policy, cross-sectoral impact assessment, and health adaptation strategies
5 years’ international non-profit experience
Proficiency in English and French languages
