We have an excellent and exciting opportunity for a Technical Officer. We seek to give the opportunity to a candidate who ideally holds professional qualification and practical abilities in technical and mechanical areas. The position shall be based in Mombasa.
SUMMARY OF ROLE RESPONSIBILITY
This role shall oversee technical operations and support to all field operations in the company. The incumbent shall also have direct reports of operators and drivers.
Document Management:
Proper documentation of all maintenance, repairs, equipment, and all technical work.
Keep an inventory of maintenance tools, materials, and parts.
Update job cards and ensure they are closed timely.
Keep records on preventive, corrective and predictive maintenance on equipment.
Keep a maintenance record and filing documents, invoices, and instruction manuals.
Ensure efficient documentation of valid OSHA and NTSA inspection reports.
Equipment maintenance:
Develop and maintain a maintenance schedule & procedure for equipment.
Adhere and coordinate equipment preventive and corrective maintenance as per documented schedules.
Report urgent maintenance and repair tasks to management for approval.
Diagnose equipment malfunctions and performing repairs.
Obtain approval for purchasing maintenance tools, materials, or replacement parts.
Proactively performing structural maintenance and keeping grounds neat.
Manage costs through effective maintenance procedure and reduction of waste.
Conduct weekly, monthly and pre-use inspection on company assets.
Ensure compliance to prescribed safety regulations when undertaking maintenance.
Operations Coordination:
Optimization of all equipment at the port and ensure they are ready for use.
Make quick decisions and solve technical problems to minimize on operations downtime.
Ensure timely mobilization of equipment
Monitor trimming operations and ensure set target hours are not exceeded.
Ensure safety of workers and third parties using machines and equipment.
Task allocation to plant operators and transport clerk.
Ensure operational cost are controlled and within budget.
Stakeholder Management:
Timely renewal of port pass
Facilitate the acquisition of KPA letter approvals e.g., Security, fire and safety, hot work permits, equipment use.
Risk Management:
Identify risks within the technical and operations scope of work
Develop measure to mitigate or eliminate the risks.
Sight opportunities from the risks being manifested.
Productivity:
Update and share weekly performance dialogue and work progress to the immediate supervisor.
Share weekly asset utilization report with management.
Other duties:
Be well informed on stakeholder developments on operations equipment.
Any other duty assigned by supervisor.
Key Competencies and Skills
Qualifications:
Diploma/Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Plant option.
Government Trade Test, Engineering
3-5 years of experience in heavy plant repairs.
A valid driver’s license for light and heavy duty machines.
Skills & Competencies:
Knowledge of machine diagnostic software.
Tech savvy
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.

Project management.
