Digital & Multimedia Lead

About the role
Power Shift Africa is looking to hire an enthusiastic and highly experienced Digital & Multimedia Lead to develop and implement our digital engagement and storytelling strategy. The individual must demonstrate high drive, sophistication and leadership in designing, executing and monitoring the impact of the strategy. 
The successful candidate must also be able to take on assignments independently and to work collaboratively with colleagues and partners in the climate movement. The individual’s body of work, namely the design and execution of digital and multimedia strategies, must be clear and easily accessible. Candidates with a track record transcending demographics, geographies and issues stand a solid chance. 
As the digital and multimedia lead, the individual will be primarily responsible for our storytelling portfolio, so a keen nose for compelling climate stories that elevate diverse and unique voices is a plus. We encourage candidates with an understanding of the work of the global climate movement to apply.
The role reports to Head of Media and Communication.
Key Responsibilities 

Lead Digital and Multimedia Strategy: Lead the design and implementation of an innovative and cutting-edge digital and multimedia strategy to help PSA realize its mission and vision
Trend Analysis and Advisory: Advise the organization on current digital and multimedia trends and take necessary measures to stay ahead.
Budget Management: Prepare budgets for the purchase, maintenance, and replacement of the company’s digital and multimedia equipment.
Content Production: Produce and package high-quality digital and multimedia content for PSA’s platforms, including the website and social media channels.
Story Documentation: Document stories of resilience among African communities in the face of the climate crisis through high-quality photos and video content.
Event Coverage: Shoot high-quality photos and videos to document PSA’s work, including events, and participate in documenting various activities organized by Power Shift Africa and the African climate movement.
Content Sourcing: Source multimedia content (photos and videos) from external sources when necessary for PSA’s use.
Multimedia Resource Management: Maintain custody of all PSA’s multimedia and digital resources, including IP rights and equipment, ensuring easy access for team members.
Quality and Compliance Review: Review existing multimedia content to ensure quality and compliance with copyright laws, selecting, reviewing, and editing photos and videos post-fieldwork to produce final products.
Equipment Maintenance: Service, repair, and replace equipment while maintaining an inventory of the company’s media equipment.
Media Collaboration: Provide video and photography content to the media for stories featuring members of PSA.

Required skills, knowledge and competencies 

Digital Terrain Expertise: A thorough understanding of the digital landscape and the ability to navigate it effectively for maximum impact.
Copyright and IP Knowledge: Familiarity with copyright and intellectual property laws in globally, ensuring originality and legal protection for PSA.
Creative and Artistic Skills: Strong creative presence and artistic flair in the ideation and execution of digital and multimedia projects.
Attention to Detail: Sharpness of mind and keen attention to detail for visualizing and creating top-tier multimedia content.
Professional Portfolio: A clear and accessible portfolio showcasing a range of digital and multimedia skills.
Editing Software Proficiency: Proficiency in using modern photo and video editing software.
Climate Process Knowledge: Knowledge of multilateral climate processes, such as the UNFCCC, is desired.
Cultural Competence: Ability to work effectively in diverse teams from different geographies and climate realities.
Team Collaboration: A team player with a collaborative spirit, open to supporting teams across the organization.

Qualifications and Experience
The candidate must possess the following:

A bachelor’s degree in film, journalism or a related field
At least 5 years working as a filmmaker/photographer/videographer – preferably on environmental and climate issues
Filmmaking/journalism/content creation certifications
Exposure and evidence of the design and execution of digital/multimedia strategies  
Fluency in English (written and spoken) is mandatory. French would be an added advantage
