PharmTech Trainee Program

Description

The PharmTech Trainee Program (PTP) is a 4-month internship program that offers aspiring pharmacy professionals hands-on experience and a solid foundation in the field of pharmacy. Each trainee will be matched to a manager and a mentor throughout the program. Our trainees will have the unique opportunity to learn and apply skills in various facets of pharmacy operations, from dispensing medications, to customer service and clinical pharmacy services. This role is open across multiple locations including Nairobi, Kisumu, Machakos and Nakuru.

Key Responsibilities

Support pharmacists in daily tasks such as dispensing medications, managing inventory, and providing patient counseling.
Prepare and dispense prescription medications accurately following established protocols and under the guidance of the pharmacist.
Provide medication counseling to patients, including instructions on proper dosage, administration, and potential side effects.
Assist in reconciling medication lists to ensure accuracy and continuity of care for patients transitioning between healthcare settings.
Dispense and update the DDR/Dangerous Drug Register in real time.
Receive, review, and bill prescription orders through the pharmacy system, ensuring completeness and accuracy of information.
Learn to dispense and process insurance prescription orders, and all billing requirements attached to them.
Assist in compounding medications, including sterile and non-sterile preparations, following established guidelines and safety protocols.
Assist in managing pharmacy inventory, including ordering, receiving, and restocking medications and supplies to ensure availability and minimize waste.
Educate patients on medication adherence, proper use of medical devices (e.g., inhalers, insulin pens), and lifestyle modifications to support their overall health and well-being.
Ensure the safety of Inventory from the elements of wastage such as expiry/theft.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, including Chronic Client File record.

Eligibility

A recent Diploma or Degree graduate in pharmacy.
Fluent in the English Language.
Must have the legal right to live and work in Kenya.
Must live within Nairobi, Kisumu, Machakos, or Nakuru.
Not more than 2 years of years of relevant experience.
