About the Role
The Assistant QA – Hygiene, Sanitation & Compliance is an operational position tasked with implementing and overseeing all food safety, hygiene, and sanitation processes across the production environment. This role is responsible for verifying that cleaning protocols, allergen management practices, and environmental monitoring procedures align with internal requirements and applicable certification standards, including BRC, FSSC 22000, and HACCP.

Conduct comprehensive sanitation inspections of all processing equipment and facility surfaces both before and after operations to ensure compliance with hygiene standards.
Assess the efficacy of cleaning protocols through ATP swabbing, visual examination, and microbiological surface sampling to ensure compliance with hygiene standards.
Maintain and calibrate sanitation monitoring equipment, which includes ATP meters, pH meters for detergent verification, and temperature probes for rinse water.
Monitor sanitation critical control parameters, chemical concentrations, contact times, water temperatures, and line dryness prior to initiating production to ensure compliance with established standards.
Collaborate with production teams to establish and maintain distinct cleaning zones, thereby mitigating the risk of cross-contamination throughout manufacturing processes.
Ensures adherence to regulatory standards and meticulous record-keeping to uphold organizational integrity and legal obligations. Maintains accurate documentation of policies, procedures, and transactions while verifying compliance with internal and external guidelines. Conducts routine audits and assessments to identify discrepancies, mitigate risks, and implement corrective measures. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to streamline compliance processes and enhance operational efficiency. Requires strong attention to detail, analytical skills, and familiarity with industry-specific regulations. Proficiency in documentation software and regulatory frameworks is essential for success in this role.
Ensure the master sanitation schedule is maintained and confirm that all daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning tasks for production lines and facilities are executed and properly documented with verified sign-offs.
Environmental samples, including swabs, air plates, and water samples, must be collected and meticulously prepared in accordance with the established environmental monitoring plan for submission to third-party testing.
Ensure all sanitation records—including CIP logs, chemical usage logs, pest control service reports, and humidity and temperature checks—are completed accurately and filed for easy traceability.
Responsibilities include the upkeep of controlled documents, including Sanitation Standard Operating Procedures (Shops), chemical safety data sheets, and master cleaning checklists.
Conducts audits and oversees Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and internal policies. Reviews quality systems, processes, and documentation to identify discrepancies, non-conformances, or areas for improvement. Investigates deviations, implements corrective measures, and verifies their effectiveness through follow-up assessments. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to address audit findings and drive continuous improvement initiatives. Maintains detailed records of audit findings, CAPA plans, and corrective actions taken to demonstrate adherence to quality and regulatory requirements.
Perform internal audits to evaluate compliance with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and hygiene standards, ensuring alignment with BRC Food Safety Standard (Issue 9) and FSSC 22000 requirements, with particular emphasis on zoning protocols (high/low hygiene areas) and allergen management within production facilities.
Compile sanitation validation records, environmental monitoring trend data, and chemical usage logs to support external audit preparations.
Prepare and submit Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) upon identification of sanitation deficiencies, such as pest sightings or improper handling and storage of chemicals.
Analyze the fundamental origins of hygiene-related deviations and collaborate with the sanitation team to establish and execute corrective and preventive measures (CAPA).

Proficiency in preparing for or conducting BRC, FSSC 22000, or HACCP audits is strongly desired.
