Job Summary
Based in Nairobi, Kenya, the Department of Population Health (DPH) is comprised of a highly-skilled multi-disciplinary team with expertise in medical, public health, social, demography, statistical and policy sciences with a vision to contribute to the health of populations, particularly those most in need, by using a population health science approach.
Responsibilities
The Public Health & Environmental Health faculty will conduct advanced research under the supervision of the Director of the Institute for Global Health and Development (IGHD). The incumbent will lead innovative research studies, publish scholarly work and contribute to the academic community while apportioning time for teaching of Population/Public Health and Environmental Health courses at both undergraduate and post-graduate levels in the Medical College. The individual will be expected to develop his/her career along a research academic track. As an academic member of the Department of Population Health, the incumbent will:
Conduct in-depth research in key thematic areas of IGHD & DPH, employing methodologies aligned with the project goals through integration with current ongoing projects.
Contribute to the development and implementation of research projects including designing studies, collecting data and analyzing findings.
Prepare research findings for publication in peer-reviewed journals, present at conferences and participate in academic discussions to disseminate research outcomes.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to foster a collaborative environment conducive to knowledge sharing and exchange.
Provide mentorship to junior researchers and graduate students and assist in academic activities.
Engage in global health professional development opportunities such as workshops, seminars, and training sessions.
Develop key high-value global research linkages and seek national and international research grant opportunities to sustain and enhance the research being conducted.
Provide Population/Public Health, Environmental Health and Community Health courses research methodology and content advisory services for students’ and residents’ dissertation projects and for specific faculty research projects.
Requirements
A PhD in Population/ Public/ Global/ International Health (All with a focus on Environmental Health), Environmental Health or any closely related field
BA and /or MSc in any of the above or closely related fields
Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research, formulate hypotheses, design experiments and analyze data critically.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret research findings and draw meaningful conclusions.
Prior research experience in a related area, evidenced by publications, conference presentations and/or participation in research projects.
Experience in teaching and supervising under and post-graduate learners in relevant fields.
Exposure to interdisciplinary research or collaborations demonstrating the ability to bridge multiple fields or approaches.
Previous experience in grant writing, project management, or involvement in obtaining research funding will be an added advantage.
