Tupande Data Lead

About the Role
The goal of the Tupande Digital Team is to revolutionize how we serve our customers across the region through technology that works for our people. We believe this will double the number of clients One Acre Fund serves, increase impact, and improve sustainability. We aim to achieve this by leveraging technology to better serve our customers.
You will contribute to Tupande’s vision through use of quality data to understand the business ecosystem, quantify new opportunities, identify challenges, shape business strategy & processes, influence investment decisions, and drive ways in which to achieve outsized impact for our farmers. You will help shape the future of the customer experiences and processes we build for farmers through data and grow a high-performing team.
You will lead a team of 6 data analysts in the Tupande Business Intelligence team, manage the Tupande Data Engineer and Tupande Data Scientist, and lead the data function in the Tupande Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning team.
You will report to the Director, Tupande Digital Strategy.
Responsibilities
About 70% of this role will be focused on leading the teams mentioned above. We are specifically interested in someone with a tech background but leaning more towards strategy setting and people leadership at this point in their career.

Establish and improve frameworks and processes for quality assurance, monitoring and analysis of impact work data working with key stakeholders including Global MEL.
Identify data quality issues with the aim to achieve accuracy, consistency and reliability and assisting in the development of and adherence to data science standards.
Lead the design, implementation, testing, deploying, and maintaining of innovative data and advanced systems solutions including machine learning and artificial intelligence that helps accelerate Tupande’s goals.
Oversee the building and deployment of models to improve efficiency, identify notable trends and inspire creativity by providing insight through data science work
Design and implement a staffing structure and investing in the team’s professional development

Qualifications
Across all roles, these are the general qualifications we look for. For this role specifically, you will have:

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a quantitative field such as statistics, mathematics, data science, business analytics, economics, finance, engineering, or computer science
Understanding of data best practices
Experience in data querying & modeling languages (e.g. SQL), scripting languages (e.g. Python) or statistical/mathematical software (e.g. R, SAS, Matlab.) experience
Experience in advanced systems including machine learning and artificial intelligence
With the ability to translate business needs into technical solutions
At least 3+ years of MEL Lead, data scientist or similar role involving data extraction, analysis, statistical modeling and communication experience with 3+ years leading a team
Experience working with data teams including data engineers, data scientists and business intelligence teams collaboratively
Experience giving data presentations with graphical or data visualization tools , SQL(write complex, optimized queries with large relational datasets) and Documentation 
Experience communicating to non-technical and technical stakeholders
