Regional Advocacy Communications Officer – Advocacy & Public Policy Junior Graphic Designer

PATH is currently recruiting for a Regional Advocacy Communications Officer to envision and implement activities to achieve PATH’s cross-cutting policy and advocacy goals. The Officer will report to the Regional Advocacy & Policy Advisor and support the Advocacy & Public Policy department’s advocacy with the governments in Africa, particularly in Kenya, but also regional bodies and national policy makers in other countries.
PATH’s Advocacy and Public Policy (APP) department works to improve health equity by working with policymakers, coalitions, and other influential individuals and groups to influence evidence-based policy change and implementation.

Responsibilities:

Conceive and implement a variety of advocacy communication activities to inform and influence policymakers, decision-makers, thought leaders, advocates and influencers, in Kenya and in other countries, particularly in East Africa, as well as regional bodies, to achieve advocacy objectives and increase visibility of immunization, primary health care (PHC), and other PATH priorities.
Conceive and write compelling communications products including reports, fact sheets, commentaries, blogs, press releases, policy briefs, talking points, case studies and digital content packages (web, social media and multimedia).
Collate and package evidence from existing health-related research and analysis to inform PATH’s policy advocacy initiatives.
Ensure communications are appropriate and compelling for the intended audience and purpose, are clearly and effectively organized and written, and are consistent with organizational goals, priorities, and standards.
Liaise with PATH technical and policy experts to ensure the objectives, accuracy and content of advocacy communication strategies and related materials are clearly met.
Collaborate on the production process with in-house and contract graphic designers on materials requiring professional design.
Develop productive internal and external relationships with advocates, sector communications peers, health specialists and donors and to achieve advocacy goals, including through participation in communications working groups.
In collaboration with PATH’s External Affairs team, provide planning and coordination support for virtual and in-person advocacy-related events and conferences, as well as elevate PATH’s policy advocacy work through targeted communication through both traditional and social media.

Required skills and experience:

Bachelor’s degree in public health, public policy, communications or related field.
At least 5 years of relevant experience in advocacy or communications, preferably global health or development related.
English language is essential, fluency in French a benefit.
Demonstrated experience preparing and carrying out effective advocacy communication activities to achieve results.
Advanced writing and editing skills in a variety of styles—from long-form reports and thought pieces to social media—for use across print and digital formats.
Ability to translate technical, policy and complex topics into compelling advocacy agendas and communication products.
Experience creating and producing versatile communications products for that target policymakers at national/subnational level and/or at multilateral institutions, etc., accurately and under tight deadlines.
Ability to deliver quality work on deadline in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple assignments, navigate ambiguity, and interact with varied work teams with minimal supervision to produce strong results.
Team-oriented and ability to facilitate productive working relationships inside and outside the organization and across cultures and geographies.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
