The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is an institution of the Aga Khan Health Service, Kenya, which is an Agency of the Aga Khan Development Network. The Hospital is part of a network of health facilities, which includes Hospitals and Outreach Health Facilities across East Africa.
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu is in an exciting growth phase and has attained acknowledgment of its quality by achieving ISO 9001:2015 certification, ISO 15189:2012 accreditation for laboratory services, Safe Care level 5 accreditation and is at advanced stage of attaining Joint Commission International Accreditation.
The Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu has Outreach Health Services at Kisii, Kakamega, Kitale, Bungoma, Kericho, Kibuye-Kisumu, West End- Kisumu, Busia, Homa – Bay, Migori, Bomet, Eldoret, Kimilili and Nyamira. The Hospital is seeking to attract interested and qualified candidates to fill the following position in Pathology Department:
Point of Care Testing (POCT) Coordinator / Kisumu
Reporting to the Laboratory Manager, the successful candidate will oversee the establishment and adherence to POCT standards at Aga Khan Hospital Kisumu and Cluster, ensuring appropriate equipment selection, staff proficiency, quality control, and reporting of results, thereby contributing to the organization’s mission of delivering high-quality healthcare services with a focus on precision and safety.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee the entire POCT program within the hospital and cluster including, procurement, service agreements, testing, financial performance, monitoring, and evaluation.
Coordinate the POCT committee and collaborate with departments for effective integration.
Lead in the selection of POCT equipment and verification of test methods.
Maintain an inventory of POCT equipment and consumables.
Provide technical support to users and oversee routine and planned maintenance for POCT equipment.
Establish, implement, and monitor a POCT quality assurance program.
Manage POCT supplies to minimize outages, expiries, and stock variances.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures and records for POCT.
Maintain a robust result reporting system for POCT that complies with regulatory requirements.
Maintain comprehensive records of all POCT documents as per laboratory retention procedures.
Monitor billing processes to identify and address any issues or inefficiencies.
Educate healthcare providers on POCT benefits and limitations in the institution.
Train POCT operators and assess their competency at planned intervals.
Prepare POCT service for accreditation.
Ensure adherence to local and international regulatory requirements.
The requirements
Higher Diploma in Medical Laboratory Sciences from a recognized institution.
Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Sciences will be an added advantage.
Minimum of three (3) years working experience in a busy medical laboratory
Experience in an accredited laboratory will be an added advantage.
Proficiency in other laboratory disciplines will be an added advantage.
Registration with the Kenya Medical Laboratory Technicians and Technologists Board. A current practice license is mandatory.
Strong attention to detail with excellent record-keeping skills.
Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
Capability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team.
