The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi (AKA, Nairobi) is an IB continuum school in Kenya authorized to offer the International Baccalaureate curriculum (IB) from Early Years through to Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Middle Years Programme (MYP), and Diploma Programme (DP). With over 1000 students, AKA, Nairobi is a multi-cultural school with a variety of nationalities represented in our student and teaching faculty.

The Aga Khan Academy, Nairobi – Junior School has an opening for the position of Learning Support Teacher starting August 2024.

Role Summary

The Learning Support Teacher will provide assistance to teachers in designing and implementing inclusion strategy, implementing Individual Education Plans in and out of class, and facilitating continuous implementation of IB philosophies. The incumbent will also assist the Homeroom Teachers to model, team-teach and evaluate child-centred, inquiry-based learning within the classrooms.

Key Responsibilities

Identify children who need support and /or with learning differences
Provide individualized and tailor-made instruction to children with learning differences
Monitor and track learning / progress using individual, class and school wide assessment
Accommodate the needs of children with learning differences by recommending intervention strategies within a mainstream classroom
Design and write individualized reports
Design and draw up individual education plans
Apply a variety of teaching strategies in your practice
Employ resource-based activities
Develop and implement special needs / Learning Support policy and procedures
Coordinate learning support programmes and personnel
Coordinate with internal and external support services and agencies

The requirements

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Education (Special Needs) with specialisation in learning difficulties
Certification in methods of educational assessments and access arrangements
5 years of working experience in an international school
Proven ability to work effectively in a multicultural collaborative team and environment
Teachers Service Commission (TSC) registration certificate (if already working in Kenya)
Certificate of good conduct
