Management Accountant

About Role

The Management Accountant for Twiga Foods is responsible for the record-to-report process within the accounting function and related control activities for this process, with the aim of reporting on the company’s internal financial performance and profitability reporting on a weekly, monthly & annual basis.
The key responsibility of the Management Accountant therefore is to provide assurance over the completeness and accuracy of the information relating to revenue and revenue streams, product costing, overhead allocation and attribution, contribution margin, product profitability, pre-tax profit and the reliability over the balances contained in the balance sheet. The Management Accountant is also responsible for making accounting estimates, cost projections and IFRS adjustments, as necessary.
The main objective of management accounting is to produce useful financial information in the form of an Income Statement, Statement of Financial Position, Statement of Cashflow and supporting cost center reports and schedules for use in the company’s internal decision-making, on a timely and reliable basis.

Key Responsibilities
Record-To-Report Controls

Responsible for ensuring that due procedures within the Record-To-Report process are complied with. Specifically ensuring.
Accurate and timely booking of all records (costs, revenues, and estimates (e.g., accruals)
Timely balance sheet reconciliation of all accounts and sub-ledgers are applied as a primary control.
Variance analyses are performed as a secondary control.
Responsible for maintaining and updating the Month End checklist as pertains management accounting process and ensuring changes are made as new transactions come up.
Responsible for master data integrity within the Chart of Accounts, including revenue and costs classification and format of accounts, sequence of codes, segmentation of locations i.e. territories, routes, channels and all applicable dimensions for the purpose of facilitating dimensional reporting and detailed variance analysis.
Approving and Posting on ERP all draft entries; Journals and invoices and raising queries for those over budget and any adverse variances analyzed.

Accounting Estimates & Adjustments Management

Responsible for managing an efficient and reliable accruals and provisions process, based on trend, insights, and contingent events, and backed by supporting documents and approvals.
Responsible for continually tracking estimated expenditure and applying timely and accurate accruals to ensure that matching concept is upheld in reporting in order to reflect the true performance/position within the business.
Approving debit notes, supplementary invoices, credit notes, rebates, commissions, and all other supports to adjustments to revenues, assets, and stocks.

Reporting

Leads all monthly, quarterly, and annual management reporting and produces Entity and Consolidated statements as well as supporting schedules.
Responsible for variance analysis across all dimensions of reporting (functions/cost centers/territories/account lines etc.)
Responsible for approving all mapping, data capture and reporting for all new business/transactions/processes. i.e., new transactions, new assets, new contracts, new leases, new projects, new locations, new accounting standards etc.

Cash flow and Treasury Management

Approves monthly cashflow plan and secures adequate funding in local and foreign currencies of OPEX and CAPEX.
Approves and additions/changes to bank master data information of our counterparties.
Approves Forex transactions and responsible for maintaining the correct Foreign Exchange rates in the system to ensure accurate valuations of foreign currency denominated values during reporting.

Leading Interim and Year end Audit Processes

Responsible for ensuring timely start and completion of audits by ensuring timely gathering of all information necessary for vouching is provided, timely provision of all schedules and timely circulation of bank circularization.
Responsible for performing Estimated Credit Loss (ECL) procedure on all Customer /Farmer/ staff and any other debts prior to start of audit.
Responsible for performing biological assets’ valuation and any other necessary valuations prior to start of audit.
Lead Fixed assets verification, Year End stock counts and Lease reviews all prior to Audit start.
Close gaps/lapses identified as an outcome of audits; risk and/or any other compliance review; investigations; or other assessment mechanisms and take corrective/preventive actions within the agreed timelines.

System and Process improvements.

Responsible for all system changes/upgrades/improvements within the ERP as well as continuously looking for ways to improve the underlying processes.
Ensure continuous communication with internal and external ERP stakeholder with prompt turn-around to queries.

Controlling.

Approving/Signing off on KYC and customer onboarding documentation.
Approving ‘Stop Orders’ instructions raised by credit control team and subsequently signing off on ‘reactivation’ of accounts.
Approves ‘Level C approver’ all payments on the banking platform before A approvers can approve.

Cross Team Responsibilities.

On a monthly basis, participating in the physical stock taking exercise in conjunction with the wider accounting team.
On a quarterly basis, participating in the business wide crate/pallet physical verification exercise and recommending write-offs losses.

Team & Self-management

Engage, coach, manage and motive the payables and receivables teams.
Model Twiga’s culture and way of working and inculcating this within the team.
Deliver the performance objectives set for the team.
Hold monthly 1-on-1 performance reviews with the team and with own line manager, and institute corrective action where performance falls below expectation.
Proactively manage the teams’ and own learning and development
Adhere to people management policies.

Compliance

Comply with all organization policies, procedures, and statutory guidelines. Minimize and mitigate risks to the organization and enforce zero-tolerance to non-compliance.
Responsible for ensuring tight timely delivery and control over signed off management accounts versions, signed Financial Statements, Company Returns and Income Tax returns.
Responsible for ensuring all corporate taxes are filed, Annual income tax, installment taxes etc.

Academic And Professional Qualifications

University Degree in Business, Economics, or relevant field
Qualified Accountant (CPA-K) or ACCA equivalent.

Relevant Skills And Experience

Prior experience working with an ERP/Substantial accounting software.
At least 7 years working experience in a busy accounting environment (with considerable exposure to high volume of transactions and technical accounting environments such as Audit or Tax)
Good working knowledge of Excel.
