Overall purpose of the role:
The Project Coordinator is responsible for representing DRC’s interests in the Field/ County with local authorities, donors, beneficiary communities and other key stakeholders. He/ She will support the Project Manager/implementation lead in guiding and supporting DRC and CSSF project and operational team at the Garissa/Mandera office. He/She will also support in coordinating the implementation of CSSF project activities within the location and ensuring adherence to quality and accountability commitments. He/She ensures that DRC policies and procedures are adhered to by staff..
Duties & Responsibilities: Responsibilities:
Programme Management, Development, Monitoring and Evaluation
Support the Project Manager the day-to-day design, delivery, and progress of the project activities against agreed targets and contribute to overall technical direction for the design and implementation of project activities under the CSSF grant.
Take the lead in the timely and quality completion of all the technical programme deliverables in the different components of the project.
Work towards sustainability of project activities through effective networking and promote linkages to other programmes.
Carry out participatory needs assessments and identify appropriate project interventions to increase incomes and long-term resilience for the local community.
Take an active role in periodic project review and planning meetings, and external meetings as often as required
Take a lead role in the documentation of lessons learned and ensure they are fed into the design of activities.
Lead/ coordinate field reporting by preparing technical internal and external reports for DRC Kenya’s activities in Mandera/Garissa, by CSSF guidelines and support implementing M&E plans.
Oversee the implementation of DRC Kenya, CSSF activities in the project target areas by supporting post-implementation monitoring as well as ongoing activities.
Participate actively in developing concept notes and proposals including the provision of the budgetary estimates of the components while liaising with Finance colleagues.
Lead the programme’s implementation of conflict sensitivity capacity support and peace efforts while ensuring close coordination with HDPB.
Support consultants engaged in the CSSF activities including around provision of available data and linkage to the beneficiaries.
Training and capacity development
Ensure project staff adhere to CHS Principles in day-to-day project implementation and participate in CHS audits.
Participate in training opportunities to build own technical capacity to support implementation, monitoring and evaluating the programme.
Build the capacity of DRC Kenya programme staff to identify, design and implement quality program activities across Mandera/Garissa County.
Budget Management
Draft spending, procurement, and work plans based on activities and budgets.
Support budget drafting exercise per the identified or prioritized needs of the project and new projects.
Support budgeting tracking to check budget utilization and work closely with the Area Manager to address any spending gaps identified.
Partnership and Coordination
Promote collaboration and synergy between DRC, other CSSF partners, local authorities, local communities and other agency interventions at the field level.
Support the partners and DRC Kenya implementation lead to ensure effective liaison with stakeholders and relevant Government of Kenya departments, from the location to divisional levels, as needed.
Participate in external stakeholder meetings and maintain external relations involving government officials and other key stakeholders.
Experience and technical competencies:
Minimum of at least five years’ experience in the value chain, community development programmes, peacebuilding interventions and preferably with an (I)NGO in an ASAL environment.
Proven analytical skills and ability to think strategically.
Conceptual understanding of the participatory approach and sustainable development
Proven people management and communication skills leading a multidisciplinary team
Demonstrable experience in supervising managing coaching and training others
Must have a ‘hands-on’, practical mentality, be self-driven and be very motivated.
Must be well organized, able to take initiative and work independently.
Strong written and verbal communication skills and good command of English.
Experience in working in complex and hardship areas/contexts.
Knowledge of the local language is an added advantage
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Development Studies, Project Management, or any other related fields
Language:
Excellent written and spoken English
Fluency in spoken Kiswahili
