We are looking for an Environment, Health, & Safety (EHS) Professional to act as the primary spokesperson for EHS matters in the Service Line Build unit (‘the unit’). This role will be responsible for defining the unit’s strategy and deploying tactical plans to meet Global and MMEA-wide strategic priorities and the unit’s specific challenges and ambitions to ensure that environmental, health, and safety risks are effectively and consistently managed across all Networks Build projects in the Middle East and Africa.
What You Will Do
EHS Management System
Implementing global and regional EHS management system requirements, frameworks, and strategies at the unit level through developing and implementing operational processes and initiatives to secure compliance with applicable EHS requirements and effective risk control.
Ensuring that all applicable requirements (Ericsson, Legal, Customer) are integrated into the business activities and processes to secure compliance and ensure adequate proactive monitoring.
Implementing and reporting against targets and short and long-term EHS objectives.
Contributing to developing and enhancing Global and MMEA Environmental, Occupational Health, and Safety-related procedures and instructions as required.
Socializing and cascading any EHS-related Policies, Group Directives, and related procedures and instructions with unit peers and management.
Ensuring the effective implementation of EHS processes across the unit.
Representing the unit in audits and assessments as the EHS SPOC and driving actions arising from them.
Ensuring all projects align with Ericsson EHS Global, MA, and local policies, instructions, and guidelines.
Risk Management
Ensuring that EHS hazards, risks, and controls are identified and implemented throughout the project lifecycle (pre-sales, planning, execution) by providing expert advice and support to the organization on EHS risk mitigation tactics and controls.
Driving best-in-class EHS programs to mitigate EHS risks and promote safe behaviors across the unit.
Conducting the unit’s EHS Risk and Opportunity Assessment and Environmental Aspects and Impacts.
Collaborating with stakeholders to develop and implement innovative ways to enhance EHS compliance and performance in the most financially efficient setup from a resource, tools, and methods perspective.
Driving efforts to identify areas for continuous improvement and find innovative solutions to manage EHS risks better.
Monitoring and control
Monitoring implementation of the EHS processes and plans systematically and enforcing strict adherence to the defined mitigation actions.
Governance
Implementing the EHS governance framework and ensuring it is effective and value-adding.
Performance Management
Implementing Global and MMEA KPIs in the unit and defining additional metrics to measure and monitor adherence and effectiveness of operational controls.
Developing information systems to ensure the accuracy, quality, completeness, and integrity of EHS data.
Monitoring and analyzing trends to monitor progress and performances against defined objectives, targets, and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to drive continual improvement. Preparing reports to provide regular progress updates to management.
Translating analytics into non-technical insights to help the organization identify and define improvement programs based on empirical evidence and data analysis.
Managing EHS-related processes and tools efficiency.
Incident Management
Implementing and managing all incident reporting, investigation, analysis, and actions in the unit.
Acting as Lead Investigator in major incidents, including conducting effective and pertinent investigation analysis, reporting on incidents as per Ericsson standards, and proposing and following up on determined corrective and preventive actions to prevent recurrence.
Ensuring that all incidents in the unit, including near misses, are investigated to a good standard by the relevant responsible parties. Following up and monitoring status and closure.
Ensuring the accurate identification of root causes from critical incidents through properly implementing RCA / FTA techniques.
Conducting periodical analysis and consolidation of critical incidents (fatalities, accidents, and HIPO) across the unit to ensure that common causes have been identified, correctly addressed, and reported to management.
Conducting deep dives for previous critical incidents, producing reports of system gaps, and proposing a road map for addressing those gaps to prevent recurrence.
Designing mitigation plans and programs to reduce operational risks, prevent recurrence, and drive continual improvement.
Ensuring the integration and deployment of lessons learned from incidents into operational processes to ensure sustainable implementation across the unit to secure organizational learning and prevention of recurrence.
Ensuring on-time closure of all corrections and corrective actions from incidents.
Emergency Preparedness and Response
Ensuring adequate emergency preparedness and response arrangements are implemented and regularly tested.
Subcontractor management
Working collaboratively with ASP Management to ensure diligent and effective management of suppliers, including the selection, evaluation, and onboarding of contractors, performance monitoring, and governance.
EHS-related programs
Contributing to formulating the MMEA EHS Strategy and Focus areas and driving the unit’s EHS strategy to address local-specific risks and challenges.
Developing domain-specific EHS programs and driving the execution (i.e., behavior-based safety, road safety, etc.)
Training, awareness, communication, and engagement
Contributing to the MMEA EHS communication plans and driving communication and engagement activities in the unit.
Driving the unit-level implementation of internal and external EHS campaigns and promotions.
Supporting onboarding and EHS orientation in the unit.
Identifying and analyzing competence gaps and resource needs and implementing mitigation plans to secure strategy and program execution.
Conducting safety leadership walks and driving this program in the unit.
Consultation & Participation
Implementing and drives employees’ consultation and participation in the unit.
You will bring!
Education: Degree in a related engineering field and a recognized formal OHS/Environment qualification, e.g., degree or diploma in OHS Health and Safety Management or NEBOSH International Diploma in Occupational Health & Safety or other equivalent recognized and relevant certification. Additional qualifications/certifications in Occupational Health & Safety (e.g., First Aid, Fire Fighting, Working at Heights, etc.) would be a plus.
Minimum ten years of demonstrated work experience in implementing EHS management systems in matrixed, multicultural, and multi-geographical environments, including a robust understanding of compliance requirements, monitoring guidelines, and standards, e.g., ISO9001, ISO 14001, OHSA’s 18001, and ISO 45001.
Proven experience in conducting formal incident investigations.
Experience in Emergency Preparedness, Crisis Management, and Business Continuity.
Sound knowledge of Middle Eastern countries’ environmental, health, and safety regulatory requirements and challenges.
Knowledge and experience in developing and deploying behavioral safety programs to address health and psychosocial risks would be preferred.
Experience in organizing & delivering HSE training internally and to subcontractors.
Proven experience in evaluating, monitoring, and performance management of subcontractors.
Experience in developing EHS documentation (e.g., OHS plans, risk assessments, method statements)
Experience in leading a team and advising on EHS activities to senior personnel (i.e., C-Level)
Experience in dealing with internal/external customers, or at least have demonstrable qualities to put “customer first,” e.g., good communication and presentation skills
Telecom field understanding
Budget management experience
Telecom experience – including customer and market insight, network rollout service delivery process, models, and strategy – would be an advantage.
