Program Officer

The Officers will participate in the development and implementation of COTU (K) related programmes, and must have the skills to produce well-written programme reports and evaluations. These officers will monitor programmes to meet budget targets and programmatic results. The Programme Officers will also prepare and exchange information and coordinate activities with our affiliates and other key partners.

Qualifications & Duties

A bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Environmental Sciences, or a related discipline. A master’s degree would be an added advantage.
A minimum of five years of proven experience in writing persuasive project proposals, budget development, programme management, training, and report writing in the context of development or labour-related programmes.
In-depth knowledge of industrial relations, trade unionism, and the labour movement landscape in Kenya, with a strong understanding of labour laws and regulations.
Proficiency in written and verbal communication, with the ability to convey complex programme activities clearly and persuasively.
Ability to develop, monitor, and manage programme budgets, ensuring adherence to financial targets.
Demonstrated expertise in the development, implementation, and monitoring of programmes, with a track record of achieving programmatic results.
Proficiency in producing well-structured and informative programme reports and evaluations, reflecting programme impact and outcomes.
Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with affiliates, partners, and donors, coordinating programme activities effectively.
The capability to analyze data, identify challenges, and propose solutions to ensure programme success.
Meticulous attention to detail in all programme-related tasks, including proposal writing, budget development, and reporting.
Ability to meet tight deadlines and manage multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.
A genuine commitment to advancing workers’ rights and the goals of COTU (K).
Proficiency in using relevant software applications for programme management, budgeting, and reporting.
Ability to adapt to changing circumstances and take on new challenges as they arise.
Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities to address complex issues and obstacles.
Knowledge of a foreign language will be an added advantage.
