Role Description
The main tasks of the Managing Director will be to:
Professionalized repair and maintenance service delivery:
Ensure good customer service and professionalism in the delivery of FundiFix services to clients.
Provide oversight in the day-to-day planning, decision making, and implementation of shortterm water supply projects e.g., studies, and infrastructure rehabilitations, funded by various donors, to ensure timeliness, quality, and complementarity to FundiFix’s operations.
Develop and scale FundiFix professionalised repair and maintenance enterprise to more geographies, communities, and institutions, working collaboratively with governments, NGOs, communities, and other WASH actors.
Lead the adoption and integration of relevant technologies into day-to-day operations of FundiFix for enhanced operations, decision, monitoring and reporting systems.
Design and manage implementation of capacity building programmes for governments, and local communities to ‘close’ the accountability loop and promote improved governance.
Operations management
Oversee day to day operations at FundiFix ensuring efficient and effective service delivery to rural users, having overall responsible for administrative functions, including logistics, HR, procurement, finance, legal compliance, audits, and risk assessments, etc.
Develop and manage a team of skilled and motivated staff that includes mobile water, electrical, and mechanical technicians, scheme operators, and administrative/support staff.
Review and strengthen FundiFix operations policies and procedures to manage risks and ensure robust operations.
Develop and implement strategies for promoting and sustaining diversity, equity, and inclusion within FundiFix’s workforce structures.
Represent FundiFix in high level dialogues, events, meetings and effectively communicate service model, impact, lessons, and opportunities.
Ensure visibility of FundiFix internationally, including through participation in relevant and strategic events, meetings, workshops, conferences, among others. Lead branding and communication efforts at FundiFix aligned with relevant FundiFix and funder policies.
Serve as primary contact with external WASH actors and other collaborators.
Growth strategy and partnerships development, resource mobilization
Identify new business opportunities for FundiFix in the Kenya water sector, including opportunities to develop new portfolios, markets, and partnerships for expanded professionalised repair and maintenance service delivery.
Assess interest and commitment for uptake of alternative professionalized models among County governments, non-governmental actors, or other players.
Lead high level sector engagement on rural water professionalisation, while clearly articulating FundiFix’s vision, strategy, and objectives.
Disseminate service impact/achievements and learnings to the donor community, government, and other key stakeholders as part of influencing agenda.
Lead the development of high-quality proposals, bids, or partnerships for new and relevant growth opportunities, identify and establish required collaborations for delivery.
Learning and reporting
Develop annual priorities, workplans, and budgets, and take responsibility for timely submission of monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to funders, government, and/or other partners as needed.
Steer the establishment of time and cost-efficient systems for performance monitoring integrating best practices and as much as possible, technology.
Oversee monitoring, evaluation, and internal learning on FundiFix operations in delivering safe and reliable water services in rural Kenya. Ensure learnings are shared and incorporated to continually improve FundiFix performance/delivery.
Support ongoing training of FundiFix staff for capacity development.
Incentivize within FundiFix teamwork, peer learning/support, accountability, high performance, innovativeness, and continuous quality improvement.
Qualifications and key competencies
Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Engineering, Business Management/Development, Water Resources Management, or a related field.
At least 10 years of work experience in the Water Sector, with demonstrated experience and successful career in programme management, business development, policy, research and/or operation and maintenance of water services.
Strong budget management and team leadership abilities working with diverse/multidisciplinary teams.
Strategic, analytical, systems thinking, and problem-solving skills, with capacity to see the big picture.
Ability to forge and maintain new relationships/partnerships, with proven experience of working with high profile donors, and sector actors.
Ability to work efficiently and effectively with minimal supervision, consulting remotely with colleagues in various locations.
Excellent written and spoken English language.
Preferably, previous experience implementing and managing USAID-funded programs.
