Role Profile

The Driver plays a crucial role in the day-to-day operations of office vehicles, providing support to meet Light for the World Kenya transportation needs. Responsibilities include ensuring proper driving and maintenance of designated vehicles to support Light for the World programmatic activities effectively. The role also involves overseeing general vehicle maintenance and addressing maintenance-related issues.

Key Responsibilities

Transport visitors, staff and/or packages to and from destinations
Arrive at destinations on schedule.
Assisting with the loading and offloading of staff luggage, products, and materials
Fulfill administrative needs, like office pickups.
Research and plan for traffic, construction, and weather delays
Use navigation applications to determine the best route.
Interact with clients professionally at all times.
Providing accurate time records of the company vehicle’s coming and goings
Ensure that the vehicle is always fueled and ready for use.
Ensuring that the company vehicle is always parked in areas that permit parking in order to avoid towing.
Arrange for vehicle repairs as needed.
Promptly informing the company of any tickets issued against the company vehicle during work hours.
Keep mileage records and repair records up to date.
Reporting any accidents, injuries, and vehicle damage to management.

Skills and Qualifications

A successful driver candidate should possess:

A valid driver’s license and at least five years of driving experience to perform the job safely.
Excellent navigation skills and proficiency in using navigation applications to find delivery locations.
Time management and organizational skills to keep track of deliveries and stay on schedule.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to interact with clients.
Clean driving record and safe driving practices
Ability to drive long distances and hours in case needed.
Proactive attitude in dealing with unexpected situations.

Requirements for Appointments

To be eligible for the position, the candidate must:

Be a Kenyan Citizen
Have a Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) mean Grade ‘D’ Plain or equivalent qualification from a recognized Institution.
Possess a valid Certificate of good Conduct.
Served in the grade of Driver III for a minimum period of (3) years or comparable working experience.
Have passed Occupational trade test III for drivers.
Possess a valid driving license free from any current endorsement(s) for class(es) of vehicle(s) the officer is required to drive.
Defensive driving certificate from the Automobile association (AA) of Kenya or its equivalent from a recognized institution.
Attended a Refresher Course lasting not less than one week within past three years from the Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution.
Attended a First-Aid Certificate Course lasting not less than one week from St. John Ambulance or the Kenya Institute of Highway and Building Technology (KIHBT) or any other recognized Institution; and
Shown merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results
