Job Description
Duties and Responsibilities:
Accountable for the Production Research Program for Veg (+Corn and DFC when they get back into our portfolio) – Research for new genetic trials, new technology screening and developing crop production & processing improvement programs to improve productivity.
Prepares annual crop calendars based on Bio-Plan/Veg Plan and budget estimates for providing input to drive business requirements.
Oversees the implementation of the crop calendars to fulfil the planned volumes within the desired timelines.
Leads the team reporting to him/her in improving scientific standards and analytical capabilities including experimental design & reporting, standardized metrics, and upscaling/change management processes to realize reliable results.
Ensures the sustained use and improvement of the data management system aimed at providing critical metrics for management and planning.
Develops ‘Crop Production’ Best Practice Protocols in liaison with the breeders and secures new technologies aimed to deliver the seed development pipeline.
Communicates technical results effectively throughout the Veg, DFC, and Corn organizations to enable business decisions implementation and training to users where applicable.
Prioritizes and ensures resource optimization through effective essential collaboration with Field Crops (Cereals), P&S Veg., and flowers organizations where applicable.
Ensures appropriate, adequate, and continuous training of the team and necessary succession management to secure business continuity.
Supports regional quality and technology teams in troubleshooting and conducting RCAs when significant deviations in protocol performance occur.
Ensures HSE rules and regulations and champions the implementation of Syngenta HSE policy in all decisions and activities, thereby contributing to a corporate culture of Health, Safety, environmental consciousness, and general sustainability.
Ensures awareness creation and compliance with the various company code of conducts.
Ensures compliance to phytosanitary regulations.
Drives the sustenance of the GSPP accreditation for the Tomato seed section of the operations.
Any other tasks & projects as may be allocated/assigned from time to time
Qualifications
Skills and qualifications:
Bachelor degree in science in horticulture/seed technology/ plant breeding/Agronomy/ plant physiology or similar course
Masters qualification will be an added advantage.
7-10 year in plant breeding and seed production
Ability to adapt to rapid changes
Good organization, communication and analytical skills
Computer literate
Ability to solve problems in a timely manner
Project management
