General Manager- Education and Leadership Development

Reporting to the EGF Director, Operations, the General Manager will have overall responsibility for the day-to-day management of the three work streams of our Education and Leadership Development programs and provide support to the other functions in other pillars of Equity Group Foundation.
The General Manager will be responsible, on behalf of the EGF Director, Operations, for delivering the Education and Leadership Pillar strategy, effective co-ordination of Education & Pillar programs/projects and management of their inter-dependencies including oversight of any risks and issues arising. It also includes the co-ordination of the new capability for the Pillar to enable effective change and realization of projected benefits.

Key Responsibilities
Leadership

Lead the Education Pillar in strategic planning and provide guidance on execution of all programs.
Remain current with developments on the field of education and general leadership and bring best practice to the Education and Leadership program.
Provide continuous improvements in performance and learning outcomes for Wings to Fly and Elimu scholars.
Develop incentives and training to enhance mentoring skills among teacher champions, branch champions and mentors to benefit the Wings to Fly and Elimu scholars.
Develop strong relationships with Ministry of Education and especially management staff at key institutions such as the Kenya Secondary Schools Heads Association (KESSHA), Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS), and all secondary schools where scholars are present.
Develop and maintain strong relationships with industry, donors, and other partners in pursuit of enriching opportunities for our scholars.
Develop and deliver an “in-school” and “beyond-school” career counselling program and activities that targets secondary and tertiary scholars.

Management

Provide oversight on the program including supervision of 40 plus staff across different program areas in the pillar.
Develop and review mentoring themes and concepts for each scholars’ convening and training.
Develop the pillar’s annual work plans and program budget.
Manage the day-to-day activities of the Education including ensuring all targets are met as scheduled workplans.
Review and authorize program related expenditure schedules in line with program budgets.
Identify new/potential program partners for both financial and technical engagement.

Reporting

Review program reports on quarterly basis and as may be required from time to time.
Ensure all scholar reports are filed in the Data Management Information System (DMIS) e.g., incidences and disciplinary actions.
Responsible for the review and timely delivery of donor reports.
Enhance the program image by managing relationships with partners and other stakeholders in respect of the day-to-day interactions and the operation of the program.
Identify and document success stories of scholars across all EGF operations.
Provide pillar performance briefs at agreed upon intervals during EGF leadership meetings.
Prepare, review and submit quarterly reports for the EGF board.

Coordination

Work closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation pillar to ensure the authenticity of each scholar in the scholarship program.
Be informed of events happening in the Education Sector and ensure EGF’s participation in brand building.
Ensure that all disciplinary issues with scholars are resolved and support granted to ensure welfare of scholars.
Work with the Communications Department to generate reports, stories, and materials to communicate the impact of the programs.
Other duties/responsibilities as agreed upon with the Director Operations or Executive Chairman, EGF

Additional Responsibilities:

On request, participate in Group wide business initiatives and provide expert advice on Education & Leadership Pillar matters including projects that may be assigned from time to time.

Critical Experience

Demonstrated Strong leadership skills, strategic planning expertise, and excellent communication abilities, Program management and as well as experience of working with multiple government and donor entities.

Essential Knowledge

Prior experience working on comprehensive education programs especially around scholarship management, curriculum development, mentorship, and career counselling.
Knowledge of education systems and implementation frameworks in the countries of operation
Demonstrated proficiency in program design and delivery.

Requirements: Knowledge, Expertise, Experience; Working experience and Professional membership

Master’s degree in education, development, career guidance or related field.
Over 10 years’ experience designing, executing, and evaluating programs involving secondary and tertiary students.
