Commercial Manager – Marine

JOB PURPOSE:

The Commercial Manager role is to lead the Business Growth activities in the Marine Business, developing commercial and business development strategies that are optimized for both short-term results and long-term strategy

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Strategy and Development:

Implement best practice company vision, strategy, policies, processes and procedures to aid and improve business performance
Develop business growth strategies to help meet organizational goals and objectives
Ensure that product strategies and processes are aligned to the overall AVA Business strategy to meet business objectives and operational needs in terms of price, quality and delivery targets and which enables the company to function and compete effectively in the market
Develop and implement Marketing Plans for all Marine products and specific customer segments
Roll-out Network Development Strategies for branches, dealers & freelancers
Take ownership of the policies, guidelines and any QMS related documents

General and Task Management:

Build and nurture client relationships in order to continue winning new contracts
Attend networking events and build industry connections in order to facilitate business growth
Works with other department heads to determine company goals and KPIs
Conduct market research to inform strategic business decisions
Oversee branding and marketing endeavors to ensure all efforts are aligned with business goals
Negotiate new projects and contract terms with new clients
Implement a customer focused operational culture delivering world class customer service levels
Report on commercial activities on a regular basis to the Senior Management team, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of the relevant Key Performance Indicators

People Management:

Provide leadership to Sales Team and coach, mentor and develop direct reports and manage a high performing team that delivers continuous improvement, added value and maximize revenue
Establish strategy and best practices for staff to ensure achievement of overall business objectives. Work with the Sales Team & Dealers to translate strategy into specific annual performance goals and team objectives including KPIs, and to track them
Set department Balanced Scorecard objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance
Ensure strong communication between teams under leadership to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement change and improvements
Ensure that the function operates in accordance with any health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety and wellbeing of staff and visitors
Complete regular performance reviews, manage attendance, holidays, disciplinary issues and procedures as appropriate
Prepare Risk Assessments for new projects / business opportunities.

Financial and Budget Management:

Work with Finance Department to provide Input and hold responsibility for sales & section budgets
Work with other departments to prepare all Capital Expenditure proposals.

Relationship Management:

Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance
Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate delivery and compliance with the business strategy
Contribute to new business initiatives and projects and review and communicate the impact on Sales

Environmental:

Ensure that Environmental, Health and Safety, assembly and quality standards and procedures are adhered to
Review environmental strategies that impact on future ways of operating and ensure implementation where possible
Review the use of technological systems that support a more environmentally friendly approach

Self-Management:

Support, comply and ensure complicity with Health & Safety regulations, the Company Handbook, Quality and Environmental standards, and all other Company policies and procedures
Inspire and motivate the team

PERSONAL SPECIFICATIONS:
Qualifications and Experience required

B.S. degree or equivalent in a business administration related subject
5 years experience in Business Development or Marketing
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong customer focus
Excellent organizational and follow up skills with strong attention to detail
Ability to meet time sensitive deadlines
Ability to adapt to a changing environment
Strong innovation and networking skills
Strong analytical and problem solving skills
Highly motivated with the ability to work independently
Knowledge of ISO Standards, (9001, 14001, 45001, etc)

Skills and Competencies required

Proficiency in MS Office.
