Careers/Guidance Counsellor School Health Nurse

Role Summary
As a Careers Counsellor, you will be responsible for guiding and assisting students in their pursuit of higher education opportunities abroad and within. Your primary role will involve providing comprehensive information which will help students and their families make informed decisions about their educational and career paths. You will provide guidance and support to individuals at various stages of their educational journey, from middle school students to those exploring college options with career advancement. You will play a crucial role in helping students make informed decisions about their academic and career paths.

As a Guidance Counsellor, you will provide advice and helpful resources to students regarding certain personal and academic situations and also be available to provide the required counselling and follow-up work. Your role will also involve meeting with prospective parents and their kids. You will be available to answer questions regarding the student’s social and emotional well-being at school.

Key Responsibilities: Careers Counselling

Student Advising: Conduct counselling and assist parents or students in selecting suitable educational programs.
Career Counselling: Offer guidance on potential career paths and the educational requirements needed to achieve them.
Educational Planning: Monitor students’ academic progress and intervene when necessary to address challenges and barriers to success.
Outreach and Workshops: Participate in outreach activities to connect with schools, community organizations and prospective students.
Record Keeping: Prepare reports and statistics on student success and outcomes.

Key Responsibilities: Guidance Counselling

Accessing support from a variety of external agencies and social services.
Identifying students at risk and providing appropriate support.
Providing opportunities to resolve issues in student-teacher relationships.
Where appropriate and within the bounds of confidentiality, sharing information with faculty so students are effectively supported.
Taking a specialist role and acting as a resource person in the development of pastoral care programmes.
Assisting with the review and implementation of the school’s guidance policies.
Assisting teachers to develop appropriate strategies to meet the individual needs of students. These may include listening, interviewing skills and conflict resolution.
Collecting and analyzing data and sharing results with the School community.
Facilitate communication between parents, Teachers, administrators and students about behavior and academic problems.
Assist with school programs and events.

The requirements
Qualifications and Experience:

Bachelor of Arts Degree in Counselling Psychology or Bachelor of Arts in Education or equivalent.
5 years of experience in Teaching/Career/Guidance Counselling.
Registration as a Counsellor or Psychologist in Kenya is preferred.
