About The Role
As the Managing Director of our Sustainable Textile Center in Nairobi, Kenya, you will play a crucial role in driving the growth and sustainability of our operations. You will be responsible for setting up collaborations with textile manufacturers, recyclers, and funders while ensuring compliance with local and international sustainability standards.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic & Operational Leadership:
Provide overall strategic and operational leadership to the Kenya operations and increasingly that of the region
Develop and execute strategic plans to achieve operational and financial goals.
Oversee day-to-day operations, ensuring efficiency, safety, and compliance.
Commercial Development:
Be responsible for the P&L of East Africa driving revenue growth and improved profitability
Identify and establish collaborations with local and international textile manufacturers and recyclers.
Negotiate contracts and partnerships to secure a consistent supply of textile waste and recyclable materials.
Explore opportunities for product upcycling and repurposing.
Compliance and Sustainability:
Ensure all regional operations are fully compliant with relevant legal, social, and environmental regulations.
Implement sustainable practices and monitor environmental impact metrics.
Work towards obtaining and maintaining sustainability certifications.
Financial Management & Fundraising:
Develop and manage the budget for the region
Monitor financial performance and implement cost-effective measures.
Explore funding opportunities and secure investment or grants for expansion.
Team Leadership:
Recruit, train, and manage a diverse team of employees.
Foster a positive work culture that promotes sustainability and innovation.
Provide coaching and professional development opportunities to staff.
Stakeholder Engagement:
Cultivate relationships with local government bodies, NGOs, and community organizations.
Collaborate with funders and investors to secure financial support for the center’s growth.
Reporting and Communication:
Provide regular reports to the Netherlands-based head office on operational and financial performance.
Maintain clear and open communication with stakeholders and partners.
About You
You have a Bachelor’s degree in business administration, environmental management, or a related field; MBA preferred.
You have proven experience in growth & scale up of impactful companies
You have a proven track record in commercial management and business development, preferably within the waste management or sustainability sector.
You have excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate with various stakeholders and in international contexts
You have experience in leading teams, and can motivate and develop team members
You have a strong understanding of sustainability principles and compliance regulations
Knowledge of the Kenyan textile industry and waste management landscape is a plus.
