Associate, Data Learning, MLE

Job purpose
The Associate, Data Learning, MLE supports the evidence-driven work that Evidence Action does. The successful candidate is primarily responsible for translating analytical output into reports, visuals and dashboards customized for various audiences such as program staff, donors and management. They are also able to communicate findings in various in-house meetings.
The Associate’s primary responsibilities encompass;

Under the supervision of the Senior Associate, take the lead in generating first drafts of reports, visualizations, and publications.
Ensuring adequate information flow within and between program teams and MLE divisions.
Reviewing and experimenting with new inventive visualization techniques that highlight MLE work.
Actively design content for in-house mentorships and MLE field team training; facilitate these mentorships.
Actively participate in the organization of in-house MLE meetings; when called upon, represent the Data Learning department and MLE at large in both internal and external engagements.

Duties and responsibilities
Accountability

Thoroughly comprehending program data requirements and communicating them to the MLE team, including the development of technologies that enable clear and effective information gathering.
Identifying, prioritizing, and communicating program team requests to the MLE team.
Seeking and documenting the most effective methods for the MLE team to serve programs.

Ensure effective information flow and communication of lessons learned from MLE to programs

Writing and editing reports and presentations with a keen eye for how the information should be phrased based on the viewpoint of the target audiences (i.e. data visualization software, infographics, etc.)
Collecting and organizing/curating information from various sources (i.e. existing program (primary) research, external (secondary) research, new analyses, management information systems, etc.) to help programs in making decisions.
Participate in the development of informative and eye-catching infographics; that aid in guiding data driven decision making.
Maintain control over all MLE dashboards by communicating with dashboard developers to guarantee the best aesthetics and the most up-to-date data are reflected.
Empowering the MLE field team officers to make quality presentations during bi-monthly meetings with programs.
Extracting learnings from analysis and research products that enable program teams to make evidence-based decisions.
Routinely attend meetings within MLE and across various programs as required.

Team Management

Managing the productivity, professional development skill building and managing at least one intern, data learning.
Contribute to the accomplishment of the data learning work plans.

Key performance Indicators

Short turnaround time between output generation and report development and dissemination.
Introduction of new visualization products to the portfolio of the Data Learning department.
Fluency in articulation of findings both orally and in written form through reports, visuals.
Routinely attend meetings within MLE and across various programs as required.

Working conditions
Typical working hours are from 8.00am to 5.00pm with a one (1) hour lunch break, between 1.00pm and 2.00pm. However, due to the nature of the job might be times when you will be expected to work outside the office hours.
Requirements
Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Data analytics, Statistics, Maths, Economics, or Communication
Excellent report writing skills, ability to work with large amounts of information and see the ‘bigger picture’.
Excellent in data visualization tools such as PowerBI, Tableau and Excel to produce strong communicative reports.
Experience building infographics and/or using design and infographic software (e.g. Gapminder, StatSilk, Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop, OmniGraffle, Canva etc.)
Working knowledge of mapping software. Either of ArcGIS, or QGIS.
Experience in developing reports and presentation from data analysis out/ transforming data into insight.
Pro-active; Strong communication skills; Creative/Thinking out of the box, Eye for detail and Love for data.
Must be confident when making presentation to a large audience and facilitating meeting.
Proven work experience in data analytics or data visualization.
Proven ability to work with tight timelines.
