Job Description
The Board wishes to recruit a dynamic results-oriented and committed individual who can transform the organization to maximize its profit and deliver on its mandate. The position will be for a three-year contract period renewable once subject to performance. The successful candidate for the position shall be offered a competitive remuneration package in accordance with KAGRC’s salary structure.
The Managing Director is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of KAGRC and shall be responsible to the Board of Directors for the implementation of KAGRC’s objectives and strategies for the realization of its goals. The holder shall also be responsible for the day to day operations and administration of the organization and the prudent management of its resources.
The duties and responsibilities shall include:

Ensuring development and review of policies, strategic plans, business plans and work plans;
Responsible for day-to-day running of the organisation;
Advising the Board on all policies and strategies relating to the management of the organization;
Secretary to the Board and custodian of the KAGRC seal;
Ensuring proper interpretation and implementation of the Board’s decisions;
Monitoring implementation of the Board’s decisions and appraising the Board on progress;
Ensuring linkage of KAGRC’s staffing to organizational objectives;
Providing leadership in developing, reviewing and implementing KAGRC strategic plans and ensuring its compliance with the Constitution, Kenya Vision 2030 and other prevailing government policies;
Ensuring effective implementation of the mandate of the organization including gene banking of all livestock species (genomics) and benchmark on animal genetics worldwide;
Ensuring development and implementation of policies, strategies and internal control systems to ensure delivery of quality service to internal and external clients;
Ensuring the development and implementation of an effective performance management framework for delivering the key priorities for KAGRC;
Leading in change management;
Effectively mobilizing resources for KAGRC activities;
Ensuring prudent management of KAGRC resources;
Planning, directing and coordinating the administrative and office support of the organization;
Coordinating and preparing business-related proposals and resource mobilization for KAGRC as a reference point for genetic materials in partnership with the National Government and the Counties;
Ensuring effective communication between management and the Board, as well as between different levels of management and stakeholders;
Providing leadership and fostering teamwork among employees;
Ensuring continuous achievement of KAGRC’s financial and operations strategic objectives in line with its uniqueness;
Managing corporate risk;
Initiating the development of strategic partnerships and collaborations;
Ensuring development and approval of the budget;
Ensuring compliance with statutory obligations;
Fostering a culture that promotes ethical practice within the organization;
Ensuring succession management and employee growth and development; and
Any other duties assigned by the Board.

Job Specification
PERSON SPECIFICATION

Bachelors degree in Veterinary Medicine (BVM), Animal Science or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
Masters degree in Veterinary Medicine, Animal breeding, Animal Science, Theriogenology or other relevant field;
Member of a professional body and in good standing;
Leadership course lasting not less than four (4) weeks from a recognized institution;
Demonstrated results in work performance;
At least fifteen (15) years’ work experience in a public or private institution;
At least five (5) years’ experience in senior management; and
Fulfilled the requirements of chapter six of the constitution.

EACC clearance;
HELB clearance;
KRA compliance certificate;
Clearance from a reputable credit referencing bureau; and
Certified copies of their degree certificates by the University attended.
