Job Highlight:
As the Manager, Technical Assistance Registry, Global Restoration Initiative, you will build and manage a database of the technical assistance and financing needs of locally led project developers and government agencies that are working to restore the world’s degraded and deforested land.
In this new position, you will prototype and design the registry, working closely with the product team that manages WRI’s TerraMatch platform. You will work hand-in-hand with WRI’s in-country staff to pilot and operate the registry within the three African landscapes targeted by the Restore Local program. WRI staff, government agencies, and technical experts will collect, vet, and categorize the technical assistance needs of these restoration champions. Simultaneously, you will work help in-country staff build alliances of technical assistance providers who can fulfil those requests, train them to operate the registry, and systematically track their progress over time.
You will also work directly with investors and government agencies to build custom dashboards hosted on the registry that combine opportunities for investment and technical assistance with progress data from projects funded through TerraFund and other restoration investment facilities.
Reporting to the Manager, Land Restoration Projects and Product Manager, TerraMatch, you will join a dynamic and growing team of program experts that operate across WRI’s international network and build relationships with technical assistance providers, government agencies, and locally led organizations. The initial focus of this role will be in African landscapes supported by WRI’s Restore Local project but will expand into other geographies, like Central India and the Amazon Basin.
What you will do:
Project Management (50%)
Build and operate a process to collect, manage, and vet the technical assistance requests of community organizations and enterprises that restore land, working closely with WRI’s TerraFund and Land Accelerator teams
Build and operate a process to collect, manage, and vet the technical assistance requests of government agencies that are building strong enabling environments for restoration
Build a process to catalogue technical assistance providers within target landscapes, working directly with WRI and partner staff withing relevant countries
Match technical assistance requests with technical assistance providers, working with a team of capacity-building experts
Manage the objectives and key results (OKRs) of the registry, ensuring that the product is achieving its intended goals on-time
Produce regular reports on the status of requests on the registry and identify new channels through which to fulfil them
Product Development (25%)
Work closely with the Product Strategist, TerraMatch and country leads to design and improve the technical specifications of the restoration registry including incorporating user feedback
Identify data from internal and external sources that will be featured on the registry
Design and construct dashboards for government agencies and investors that show the opportunity for investment within jurisdictions and demonstrate the progress already made there
User Engagement & Training (25%)
Train government agencies and local restoration champions to navigate and submit requests for support on the registry
Train technical assistance providers on logging their interest in fulfilling requests and reporting on their progress
Work closely with WRI and its government and civil society partners to identify the needs of users of the registry and inform future product development
What you will need:
Education: You have a completed Bachelor’s degree in public policy, forestry, agriculture, data science, or other related field, Master’s degree, preferred
Experience: You have 7+ years of experience in project management. You have professional experience working directly with government agencies and local organizations
Track record of managing a multi-stakeholder partnership, mobilizing partners toward a common vision
Experience working with people from different cultures and backgrounds and coaching them to deliver timely results
Knowledge of online project management tools, such as Airtable and Monday.com, and prior knowledge and experience with new user learning platforms training
Experience with supporting the development of online products, preferred
Languages: You have written and verbal proficiency in English, with additional fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, and/or French considered an asset
