The performance of the Accounting & Finance Associate plays a pivotal role in ensuring the optimal, judicious, and effective allocation of resources, as well as the accurate recording, administration, and reporting of financial activities—critical functions that strengthen managerial oversight, informed decision-making, and stringent quality control.
Summary of key functions/accountabilities:
Responsibilities include compiling and preparing financial reports, assembling relevant data, and addressing queries to uphold compliance and ensure precision in financial documentation.
Serves as the Local Finance Focal Point, responsible for validating invoices, ensuring accuracy in calculations, and overseeing submissions to the Global Shared Services Centre (GSSC).
Maintain accurate and up-to-date financial records by systematically tracking and verifying expenditures, balances, and payments to ensure transactional integrity.
Data Management responsibilities include selecting, verifying, and inputting information from various sources while maintaining strict standards of completeness and accuracy.
Prepare recurring and special reports to support audits, budgetary assessments, and other operational requirements, both on a scheduled and ad-hoc basis.
Provide support for account closure procedures and contribute to the preparation of year-end financial statements.
Staff Advisory: offer expert counsel to employees and consultants regarding allowances, claims, and financial procedures.
Initiate correspondence to verify information and address any discrepancies encountered.
As a Bank Liaison, your responsibilities include cultivating and sustaining strong relationships with local banking institutions, tracking and analyzing exchange rate fluctuations, and ensuring accurate financial reconciliations.
Budget Support involves creating accurate cost estimates and participating in budget analysis and project evaluations.

Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential for collaborating with team members and stakeholders. Additionally, the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment is required. Familiarity with project management methodologies and prior leadership experience are highly desirable.
A secondary school diploma or its equivalent is mandatory for consideration.
A minimum of six years of professional experience in finance and accounting is essential for this role.
Proficient in developing and overseeing project plans, goals, and outcomes while monitoring resource allocation—including time, budget, and team contributions—and proactively identifying potential risks. Skilled in data analysis to detect challenges, interpret findings, and deliver data-driven recommendations that inform strategic decisions. Experienced in leveraging digital tools, AI-driven platforms, and business systems to optimize data quality, streamline management processes, and enhance reporting accuracy.
Fluency in English is a mandatory prerequisite for this position.
Desirables:
Proficiency in an additional official UN language—including Arabic, Chinese, French, Russian, or Spanish—or the local language of the duty station is regarded as an advantageous skill.
Finance- or accounting-related professional and academic coursework is strongly preferred.
Proficiency in development work, particularly within fragile and humanitarian contexts at the national level, is advantageous.
