Overall purpose of the job

Reporting to the Assistant Director Advocates Training Programme, the incumbent will be responsible for training in the Advocates Training Programme and maybe deployed to teach in Paralegal Training Programme.

Job Description

The duties and responsibilities of the officer will entail: –

Participating in curriculum development and review curricula.
Coordinating course or subjects.
Organizing, coordinating the legal clinics program in the department.
Organizing, coordinating pupilage and pursuing accreditation of the pupillage centres.
Organizing and coordinating the moot court program and prepare students for moot courts.
Exercising supervisory role over other staff in the department.
Conducting research in areas of legal training.
Teaching or training in the Advocates Training Programme and paralegal studies.
Supervising students serving pupillage.
Preparing students for both national and international moot court competitions to enhance advocacy skills.
Verifying student admission documents.
Preparing of teaching manuals.
Setting, moderating and marking examinations.
Setting and marking project work and administer oral examinations.
Resolving complaints and initiating disciplinary process on matters arising out of pupillage.
Preparing budget for the legal clinic, moot courts and pupilage programs in consultation with the head of department.

Person Specification

To qualify for this position, the applicant must have: –

At least eight (8) years’ post admission relevant work experience three (3) of which should be in a supervisory role.
Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university.
Master’s Degree in Law (LL.M) from a recognized university.
Post-graduate Diploma in Law.
An advocate of the High Court of Kenya with a current practicing certificate.
Member of the Law Society of Kenya in good standing.
Certificate in management course lasting not less than four (4) weeks will be an added advantage.
Fulfilled the requirements of Chapter six of the Constitution.
Proficiency in Computer Applications.
