Duties and Responsibilities
This is the entry grade for this cadre. Work at this level will be carried out under the close supervision and guidance of a senior officer. Specifically duties and responsibilities at this level will entail:
Diagnose and treat patients.
Plan and conduct primary health care activities to promote disease prevention and reduce child mortality.
Counsel of patients in the clinic to ensure patient mental and physical wellbeing.
Provide routine patient care and support, including health education to promote patient wellness and disease prevention
Participate in guiding staff in the clinic to promote quality service.
Plan and conduct primary health care activities to support the prevention of communicable diseases.
Attend to patients and refer them for further medical attention, where necessary to reduce disease burden in the community.
Provide routine patient care and support.
Maintain appropriate staff records for future reference and decision making.
Perform minor surgical and medical procedures as part of treatment.
Implement clinical services plans and policies for quality patient care
Compile reports for decision making.
Screen patients for diseases to enhance early detection and treatment.
Offer continuous medical education to members of staff.
Carry out medical management of patients attending the health centre including consultation and examination, interpretation of laboratory and radiological results to provide diagnosis and prescribe treatment.
Requirements for Appointment
For Appointment to this grade a candidate must:
A holder of Diploma in Clinical Medicine or an equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
Possessing a minimum of 3 years’ experience (any 3 years cumulative in at most 2 health units) in a busy set up especially an institution of higher learning.
Registration Certificate from the Clinical Officer’s Council
Having a current practicing license from the Clinical Officers Council.
Having proven diligence in clinical practice,
Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in a good track record
Willing and ready to work during odd hours.
A member of a relevant professional association.
Having a post-basic qualification as an added advantage
