Manager – Operational Risk & BCM

JOB SUMMARY:

To oversee full implementation and enforcement of the banks Operational Risk Management frameworks and best practices within the Bank.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategies – 30%

Implement and embed the Operational Risk Policy and processes for defining, assessing, measuring, monitoring and reporting operational risks for the various business and support areas in consultation with supervisor.
Actively collaborate with the “first line of defense” (business areas) e.g. for risk identification and analysis, to create risk metrics and in designing mitigation solutions. In addition, define “key” risk metrics for operational risk within the Business and Support functions.
Identify changes in business strategy, market conditions, industry trends, regulatory environment, country macro-economic factors, etc. that may impact operational risk management within the Bank and advise senior management.

Operational Risk Management – 50%

Responsible for implementation of the bank’s Operational risk and frameworks, take charge of risk identification, assessment and mitigation strategies. Ensuring these aspects are embedded into the operations of the Bank in consultation with the Head, Operational & IT Risk Management.
Performing independent reviews on compliance with the bank’s laid down policies and procedures assess adequacy of risk management controls, observance of regulatory requirements and highlight exceptions or violations.
Ensure that the Bank complies with regulatory standards and limits related to operational risks at all times.
Maintain and monitor an Operational Loss Database to monitor operational losses and their respective root causes.
Identify and document critical business risks, processes, and controls to be assessed in collaboration with business unit management within the Bank.
Utilize leading indicators and metrics to identify areas of potential and emerging risks.
Work with other second line of defense functions in the identification, analysis and assessment of key operational risks as relevant for individual business lines/departments.
Participate in various business projects and contribute to their success as may be assigned by the supervisor. Play an active guidance role on Operational Risk matters in products, projects or developments. Carry out a risk review of new key projects and products.
Develop actions or, as appropriate, projects to apply lessons learned across a product, business, segment, country or region.
Evaluate control issues and ensure adequacy of Event Root Cause Analysis and corrective action plans.
Make control recommendations based on thematic reviews or event root causes analysis on operational risk lapses and incidents.
Keep abreast with current changes related to financial markets/industry while taking into consideration the potential impact from an operational risk perspective to re-evaluate the risk profile of the Bank.
Coordinate periodic bank wide policy review exercises and ensure all reviewed policies and procedures are maintained on the bank’s intranet.
Maintaining an enterprise-wide assessment of the most significant, current and emerging operational risks to business activities, and ensuring appropriate actions are in place to mitigate against these risks.
Oversee the delivery of operational risk reports to the Risk and Compliance Committee (ORCO), Regulators and Senior Management (EXCO).
Identify and document critical business risks, processes, and controls to be assessed in collaboration with business unit management within the Bank.
Maintain and manage the bank’s Risk & Compliance Committee (ORCO) secretariat.

People Management – 20%

Build talent and teams for the Bank by creating a culture of risk governance, integrity, and operational excellence.
In consultation with supervisor, develop and implement an extensive staff training plan and awareness program to promote a strong culture of sound operational risk management.
Drive customer satisfaction through adherence of set SLAs and issuing stakeholders timely feedback.
Responsible for delivering the performance objectives set and managing his/her own learning and direct reports.
Implement a succession plan for the sub-unit.

Knowledge; Skills and Experience required for this Role

At least 8 years’ experience in a banking environment, with at least 4 years in extensive experience of operational risk analysis and business continuity management at management level.
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Applied Statistic, Finance, Economics or related fields.
Post graduate degree or other relevant professional certifications in Risk Management.
