Job Purpose
To guide, direct and oversee a team of mechanical technicians as well as contract/annual maintenance for day to day operations and maintenance of mechanical plant and equipment in order to enhance skills, minimize plant down time/improve uptime and thus optimize performance and plant reliability, particularly steam systems, water systems, Pneumatic systems and standby power systems.
Key responsibilities:
Repairing and servicing of equipment
Liaise with supervisor (Mechanical) in planning and supervision of repairs/ maintenance of all mechanical plant and equipment carried out by Mechanical technicians and help them as necessary to ensure optimum systems uptime.
Inspection of Plant and equipment to assess requirement of spare parts and liaise with supervisor (Mechanical) to initiate non-stock purchase requests, ensure receipt of acceptable specifications.
Ensure all backup/standby plants and equipment is ready (operational) to operate as and when required through inspection and logging in daily equipment status checklists. Maintain history cards of all equipment.
With guidance from the supervisor (mechanical), prepare equipment/systems inventory, plan and implement PPM schedule to reduce breakdowns and down time of machine.
Maintain updated record of PPMs, review performance indicators and prepare action plans where deviations are observed.
Follow up and monitor contractors for timely and effective implementation of external PPM schedule and keep updated record.
Equipment pre-purchase technical appraisal participation
General maintenance of the Hospital facility
Guide and monitor general repairs in assigned section e.g. carpentry, masonry and painting.
Guide and direct small in-house improvement projects and Identify materials required.
Ensure safe housekeeping of workshops and plant rooms.
Liaise with contractors on outsourced jobs to ensure JCIA/ISO and other statutory requirements are met.
Supervision of Staff
Assist supervisor in preparation of duty roasters
Assist supervisor in preparation of annual leave schedule while maintaining adequate coverage of assigned section.
Assist supervisor in conducting performance
Appraisals and plan technician development program
Participate in the recruitment process
Daily complaints management, tracking, conclusion to user satisfaction and ensure timely feedback
Liaison with customers in assigned section during planning and implementation of tasks to reduce complaints
Liaison with customers’ department heads to understand concerns and plan to resolve accordingly.
Any other duty as may be assigned from time to time
Qualifications, experience, and skills required
Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
At least five years experience in a similar position
Must be computer literate
Good experience of gas equipment, distribution systems and controls
Knowledge of LPG systems, safety requirements, distribution systems and controls
Knowledge of Hydro-Pneumatics systems
Knowledge of HVAC system and refrigeration equipment.
Operation and maintenance of steam boilers, steam distribution and controls,
Knowledge and safety of high-pressure vessels
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, very good analytical and organisational skills.
High personal integrity and results oriented
