Key Responsibilities:
Support sustainable investing of Finance in Motion through assessment of investment opportunities and concept development in a wide variety of areas, including sustainable agriculture and agro-processing practices, mitigants to climate change in agriculture, aquaculture, and value chain development
Support the preparation of investment proposals by assessing risks/opportunities of agribusiness investments, including the analysis of the agriculture loan portfolio of local financial institutions as well as the assessment of corporate production practices, to define the use of proceeds strategy for debt transactions
Provide technical advice on agribusiness-related issues as needed, particularly related to supply chain issues and specific commodities of interest to the region
Research and keep up to date with any relevant developments in agriculture, aquaculture, forestry, tourism, and food value chain, as well as other relevant information and trends that may affect the investment strategy of Finance in Motion´s funds
Prepare reports, write advisory leaflets and technical notes such as crop profiles in English as required
Interact and support other units within FiM to achieve an effective implementation of the sustainable agriculture investment strategy
What we expect:
Professional graduated in agronomy, agricultural sciences or an equivalent field. A Master’s degree in a field related to the position (environmental studies, agricultural science, agronomy or similar) is a plus
Significant relevant work experience in Sub-Saharan Africa, in the fields of sustainable farm management and production, planning and monitoring of sustainable agriculture initiatives and projects, natural resource management, and social and environmental management in crop production
Excellent communication skills in English (French is a plus), including ability to write clear, succinct reports
Excellent technical knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices in a wide variety of crops inSub-Saharan Africa (including new production techniques and precision agriculture technologies)
Working experience in certification schemes is a plus, including Rainforest Alliance, Fairtrade, Bonsucro-EU, RSPO-Next, ASC, MSC, FSC, and sectoral initiatives such as ISEAL, IFOAM, etc. among commodity producers for export markets
Proactive personality with a solid track record of working by objectives and effective fulfilment of goals with little supervision
Ability to work in cross-disciplinary teams and provide support cross-regions. Able to communicate ideas clearly, articulate issues and recommend solutions
Willingness to travel internationally on a regular basis
