JOB PURPOSE
Reporting to the Facility In-Charge, the VMMC Assistant Surgeon will work together with the Surgeon (Team Lead), in the provision of safe male medical circumcision services as part of a team working in a health facility or VMMC/EIMC mobile or outreach setup.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist in providing quality and safe male circumcision services to clients in the fixed, out reach and mobile sites and facilities.
Provide STI screening and treatment for clients attending male circumcision services presenting with STI.
Monitor the health process of the clients and ensure that the national standards are strictly adhered to by the team.
Screen patients and ensure that they are fit for surgery.
Document and manage circumcision related adverse events accordingly and promptly reports appropriately.
Ensure patient safety is guaranteed before surgery, during surgery and immediately after surgery.
Review all circumcised clients on the 7th day and conduct active follow up for all clients failing to come back for review.
Engage facility healthcare workers in male circumcision services to ensure their participation and skills development.
Support the Team Lead in stock and inventory management.
Ensures that all VMMC protocols and checklists are available at the site and strictly adhered to.
Ensure timely and proper documentation of client files and registers accordingly.
Keep information about clients in strict confidence.
Ensure participation in Continuing Medical Education (CMEs) and documentation of the same.
Any other official duty as assigned by the supervisor.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Professional Qualifications
Diploma in Clinical Medicine or Nursing
Registered by relevant professional regulatory body
Trained and certified in all VMMC areas – dorsal slit, EIMC and device
Required Qualifications and Experience
Minimum of (3) years’ experience providing continuous voluntary medical male circumcision services
Skills and Competencies
Excellent written, listening and oral communications skills
Proficiency in both English and Kiswahili
Ability to work well within a team set up
