The Role
The Regional East Africa Hunger Crisis Advocacy and Campaigns Manager is part of the OI Platform HECA. The Platform’s vision is to contribute to a transformed and stable region, where people exercise their right to challenge power and have dignity and security to drive transformative change in their lived experiences.
In collaboration with East Africa Hunger Crisis response team, country teams in the region, partners and allies, and the confederation, lead the development and management of Oxfam’s influencing strategy for the East Africa Hunger Crisis, managing advocacy, campaigns, policy, and contributing to communications and media work. Ensure that the East Africa Hunger Crisis response programme delivers coherent policy and influencing, built on programming, cognisant of risk and relevant to the country, regional and global context.
The Regional East Africa Hunger Crisis Advocacy and Campaigns Manager lead on overall campaigns and advocacy strategy and delivery for the regional East Africa Hunger Crisis response. Drawing together support as appropriate from across the confederation, building and co-developing influencing strategies, and ensuring that influencing work is focused on achieving practical impact.
Coordinate across the region, affiliates, country teams, global humanitarian team, EU office, NY Office and other teams engaged in the hunger crisis, to ensure advocacy, campaigns and policy resources are available at an appropriate level, coherence, and risk management. Steering campaigns, advocacy, media and policy outputs in line with Oxfam’s existing positions and strategies.
All Oxfam staff are expected to promote and use a safe-programming approach in all humanitarian responses, to be accountable for ensuring community participation shapes programme decisions, and actively seek a partnership approach and worked following feminist principles including strong awareness of power dynamics.
What we are looking for:
Our next Regional East Africa Hunger Crisis Advocacy and Campaigns Manager will require:
Knowledge of and demonstrated commitment to Oxfam’s values, mission and work including the feminist approach to humanitarian responses and Oxfam’s partnership principles
Strong knowledge of global humanitarian and conflict issues, particularly those related to hunger crisis, displacement, refugee law, and impacts on women and girls.
Substantial and proven experience in advocacy or campaigning for humanitarian or human rights
Strong experience and understanding of developing accurate power analysis, advocacy strategies, and models and theories of change, including awareness of political sensitivities.
Excellent communications and facilitation skills, with strong understanding of leadership in complex group dynamics.
Demonstrable organisational and project management skills and ability to manage multiple projects to deadlines
Excellent understanding of, commitment to and experience of embedding and continuously learning to embed a decolonial, anti-racist, intersectional feminist and partner led approach in your work.
Lobbying and political skills: persuasive, diplomatic and articulate
Experience in advocacy, research, policy, lobbying, media work and public campaigning, including the ability to act as a spokesperson when necessary
