CrossBoundary Energy (CBE) is recruiting a full-time Senior Business Development Associate. As a member of the CBE team, you will actively support in deploying the $100M fund to finance solar-hybrid assets for businesses throughout Africa.
CrossBoundary is not a development firm and is not seeking typical development skills – CBE will look to you for practical insights on how to make discrete business decisions that will directly affect our financial outcomes. Instead, CrossBoundary looks for a proven track record of international experience and experience working with globally leading firms.

Who You Are
Self-starter who is passionate about clean energy and its potential to transform fragile states and frontier markets in Africa
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Comfort with ambiguity; ability to operate effectively in a changing, challenging context
Strong quantitative skills; mastery of financial and pricing models
Strong business judgement; ability to independently conduct evaluations of a variety of businesses
Deep understanding of renewable energy technologies such as solar PV, battery energy storage systems, biomass, and wind, and their commercial viability across markets in Africa
Deep knowledge of global renewable energy markets, international trends, and their potential applications in developing country contexts
Primary Responsibilities
Develop and implement strategies for identifying, tracking, and engaging potential clients and then create bespoke proposals to meet their needs
Understand clients’ business activities and business drivers
Create, use and update various financial and business models for pricing complex renewable energy projects, estimating renewable energy savings, assessing the potential for new products and revenue growth initiatives
Continuously develop, manage and engage numerous clients’ stakeholders across the local, regional, and global levels, and across various functions within the client organizations including technical, procurement, financial, and leadership
Cultivate and manage a wide range of developers and technical partners to originate, develop, and close projects
Develop, edit and negotiate a variety of financing contracts including power purchase agreements, leases, and loans
Independently conduct due diligence of potential projects and clients, synthesize all findings into investor presentation materials, and present to investors/board for project approval
Develop new renewable energy products that meet clients’ evolving needs and requirements to remain ahead of market developments
Develop, analyze, and drive various revenue growth initiatives such as new business lines that support clients’ transition to clean energy while also ensuring significant savings
Significant experience working in highly diverse & multicultural organizations, preferably across multiple geographies
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have the following skills and qualifications:
Business-related bachelor’s degree strongly desired
Experience working in Africa, especially in East and West Africa
4+ years in a business-related field at a top tier management consulting, private equity or investment banking firm
Experience working in renewable energy
Experience working in several countries outside of Africa
Required skills and qualifications:
Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees with either degree related to business
Experience working in a developing country
2+ years in a business-related field
Experience working in energy
