Public Health Intern (SBC/CHS/WASH) Program Support Interns

Main purpose of the job
The incumbent will provide support to the team while ensuring timely delivery of work in the allocated areas. The position will be based in our Nakuru office.
Job Description

Support community mobilization activities and work with community leaders including National Government Administrative Officers (NGAO) and other key departments and stakeholders to conduct grassroot advocacy that address socio-cultural barriers to service uptake, using contextualized SBC strategies in the Sub County.
Support Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) and Community Health Committees (CHCs) to conduct quarterly sessions for community units to review community-collected health indicators as well as conduct Household Level Supervision to ensure quality provision of services and messaging.
Coordinate Long-Acting Permanent Methods (LAPMs) activities including supervision of the male champions to enhance mobilization and demand creation activities for Family Planning services.
Work with Technical Officers to support implementation of USAID Tujenge Jamii key Social Behaviour Change (SBC) interventions (Binti Shujaa, Baby Friendly Community Initiative (BFCI) and Champion Community Models (CCMs).
Support implementation of Binti Shujaa intervention including supporting established Binti Shujaa groups.
Work with the departments of education and public health to support sensitization sessions for teachers to equip them with the knowledge and skills to establish school health clubs.
Support training of natural leaders, CHVs, catalysts and community members on various Water Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) components including sensitizing communities on food and water safety measures.
Spearhead the Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) processes aimed to deliver village open defecation free.
Work with Community Health Units (CHUs) and CBOs to ensure smooth coordination of CHUs/CBO volunteers’ activities such as pregnancy mapping, referrals and documentation and reporting.
Establish and maintain excellent relationship with the Sub-County Health Management Teams (CHMTs) and other community stakeholders within identified area.
Any other responsibilities as guided by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Minimum Bachelor of Science Degree in Environmental Health, Public Health, or related Health Science.
Minimum KCSE overall grade of B+, with a B+ in Mathematics and English.
Previous experience working with Ministry of Health (department of health) is an added advantage.
A high degree of self-motivation, positive attitude, drive, and the ability to contribute to a multi-cultural, team-based work environment.
