Summary:
A School Driver has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety, and welfare of the children and staff.
It is also the role of the Driver to guarantee that the bus is clean and in proper working condition at all times; determine and follow safe and efficient bus routes; ensure all children are in age-appropriate child safety restraints; assist in ensuring child/staff ratio is maintained on the bus; maintain all transportation records required by the program and, evacuate children in case of emergency
Qualifications and Requirements:
Knowledge of Highway Code and school bus regulations.
Possess a PSV License, Current Certificate of Good Conduct
Possess a BCE- Class Driving License for more than 5 years.
Must possess a recent (not older than 6 months) Certificate of Good Conduct.
Minimum 2 years experience with school bus transportation.
Ability to operate the school bus in a safe and responsible manner.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Operates school vehicles in such a way that road and safety regulations are always followed
Ensures the safety and well-being of children and adults being transported to and from school and/or field trips.
Arranges for the annual vehicle inspection of the bus/van before the program begins to transport children; assures, with prior approval, purchases and/or repairs are made pursuant to government inspection.
Maintains clear and accurate records on mileage and fueling, by recording required data daily and submitting the records as required
In case of accidents/emergencies, evacuate children according to written and practiced procedures.
In the event of an accident, assures that medical emergency procedures are followed; completes a written and /or verbal accident report as required by the school
Performs other duties, as assigned by the supervisor
