Country Director, Kenya

Role Description:

Lead People

Directly manage senior-level department heads, guiding their decision-making and supporting their rapid and meaningful career growth
Ensure professional development initiatives are implemented across all grades
Steward team morale and maintain high levels of staff satisfaction by implementing team initiatives and regular feedback mechanisms
Solicit and provide real feedback to team on delivery strategy and execution of key activities based on analyzing data or through previous experience scaling and providing services to customers

Lead Impact

Lead Impact Water Kenya and generate impact for schools across the country by overseeing all departments of the program, including operations (installation, maintenance and repair), school engagement, product usage and monitoring & evaluation
Steer product and process innovation for the Kenya program to increase impact year-on-year
Prepare model for country scale-up and global replication

Lead Strategy

Facilitate decision-making at the highest strategic level for Impact Water Kenya. Ensure all major decisions contribute towards Impact Water’s long-term vision.
Identify and drive key strategic priorities for Impact Water Kenya such as financial efficiency and program expansion by implementing strategic projects contributing towards those priorities
Ruthlessly prioritize and decline projects that are not a strategic priority for Impact Water Kenya Lead the annual planning process, which includes the setting of objectives, key results and annual budgeting

Lead Communication

Communicate openly and transparently with direct reports and across the team, particularly with regards to major decisions affecting the program
Be the face of Impact Water Kenya to develop new strategic partners in alignment with Impact Water goals and maintain strong relationships with government, e.g., Ministry of Education and local government authorities

Reports to: Regional Director for Africa.
Criteria
The ideal candidate will be a mission-driven individual that can fully align with Impact Water’s values and demonstrate the following preferred skills, experience and qualities:

7+ years of work experience, ideally in a startup or high growth SME context, with a track record of achievement of setting and achieving goals.
Demonstrated interest in social impact
Strong people management skills – the ideal candidate will have managed 3+ people directly and ideally have led a team of 10+ people in previous roles
Experience in state/local government relations and/or external representation preferred (but not required)
Transparency, integrity, a bias towards action, innovation, and a focus on problem-solving along with a natural love of learning and curiosity
The successful candidate must be willing to commit to living in Nairobi long-term (minimum 3-year commitment)
Enthusiasm for engaging with schools, including frequently visiting schools across the country
