Chief Operations Officer (COO)

Job Description
We are hiring a Chief Operations Officer (COO) to assist in daily running of the society alongside the General Council (GC). The officer will coordinate the activities of this umbrella geosciences organization in a professional, efficient and effective manner. Our ideal candidate has all-round experience from professional circles to the commercial industry.
Objectives and Responsibilities of this Role

Work together with the GC in driving organizational vision and implement operational strategy
Oversee administrative operations and continually ensure members participation to build a highly inclusive culture ensuring membership thrives.
Facilitate effective recruitment of members, on boarding, professional development and performance
Adhere to professional and local business requirements, enforcing compliance and taking action when necessary
Undertake stakeholder engagements alongside the members of the GC
Attend and organize networking functions to enhance the visibility of the society
Facilitate communication between the GC and the members and stakeholders.
Market the vision and intellectual and physical products of the society as may be developed from time to time
Organize, participate in meetings, conferences, workshops and symposia

Skills, Competencies and Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Business Administration, communication, or related field; (a Master’s degree in business administration will be an added advantage)
Over 5 years’ experience in administration position
Leadership skills, with dedicated resolve and personal integrity
High personal motivation, self-driven, self-management and detail-oriented
Ability to take responsibility in meeting deadlines and making progress without direct supervision
Strong spoken and written communication skills
Capacity and willingness to learn new work routines quickly under minimal supervision of the General Council
Strong existing computer skills with Microsoft office (Word, Excel and Access), general internet and electronic communications.
Skills in regulatory issues
Be able to identify problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues
Willing to fundraise

Position details:

The person will report to the GSK General Council
The working hours are 8hrs per day
Salary: Starting Gross negotiable
