Access to good agricultural advice/knowledge continues to be a significant challenge for the agricultural industry hoping to support smallholder farmers. In most cases, the answers to farmers problems are readily available however access remains the issue. Digital farming is aiming to provide this knowledge through mobile phone technology, however we firstly need to identify the issues and their root cause of the problem.

Responsibilities

Able to provide the content and strong local guidance to make our solutions both practical, scientifically sound, and relevant for farmers in East Africa
Identify pest, diseases, deficiencies symptoms from pictures received from farmers, annotate and classify them as per type of issue and apply macros accordingly
Interact with farmers via a chat (in Swahili) to provide advice & support on crop protection and nutrition topics daily
Work closely with Yara East Africa Agronomists on all issues that need Agronomy support

Profile

Bachelor degree in Agriculture or related academic discipline
A minimum 2 years field experience
Strong understanding of maize and other crops grown in Kenya and Tanzania
Knowledgable about the major pests, diseases and nutrient deficiency symptoms for the crops mentioned
Effective communication skills
Competent in microsoft office applications
