Job Summary
The Director General is the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Authority and is responsible to the Board of Directors for the day to day management and coordination of activities in the Authority.
Job Description
Duties and responsibilities at this level entail: –
Coordinating the operations and administrative functions of the Authority;
Developing policies and programmes of the Authority;
Managing funds and property of the Authority;
Managing and developing staff in the Authority;
Developing operations plans and programmes for achieving the Authority’s objectives;
Co-operating with lead agencies and organizations locally and globally in the Road Sub-sector;
Developing economic, efficient and cost effective internal management structure;
Formulating, implementing and reviewing the Strategic Plan, business plan and annual plan of the Authority;
Ensuring implementation and fulfilment of the policies and agreed objectives; performance targets and service standards of the Authority.
Providing advice as required on all matters within the Authority’s mandate; and
Performing any other duty necessary as stipulated in the Act.
Job Specifications-
For appointment to this grade, the ideal candidate must: –
Have at least fifteen years’ (15) post-registration experience in the field of road and highway engineering;
Masters Degree in Civil Engineering, Management, Leadership, Strategy, Finance, Administration, Economics, Project Management or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution;
Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering – Road, Highway or Transportation engineering degree or equivalent qualification from a recognized institution.
A minimum of fifteen (15) years relevant experience, ten (10) of which must have been in senior management position.
Registered with the Engineers Board of Kenya in the category of registered engineer in the field of highway engineering;
Membership with the Institution of Engineers of Kenya (IEK);
Demonstrated Leadership and Management Competency including project Management skills;
Proficiency in computer applications;
Fulfilled requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution;
Demonstrated merit and ability as reflected in work performance and results.
In addition, the following core competencies and skills will be required for the position of Director General, Kenya National Highways Authority:

Excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills;

Terms of Service and Remuneration – The successful candidate will serve on contract for a period of three years, renewable only once subject to satisfactory performance and delivery of set performance targets and outcomes.
