Overview
An AVSEC (Aviation Security) Investigator, is a critical element in AVSEC Operations whose responsibilities include collecting and analysing evidence, interviewing witnesses and suspects alike, conducting overt and covert surveillance and making and/or recommending arrests of suspects. This critical role should be able to work independently as well as be part of a diverse team of security professionals.
In the context of Aviation Security (AVSEC), a security investigation will include a thorough search for facts, especially those that are hidden, or need to be sorted out, in a diverse and sometimes complex situations. The primary goal of an investigation should be to determine how and why something happened. These types of investigations are usually formal and official.
Key Objectives and Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
Collect and analyze evidence, interview witnesses and suspects alike
Conduct overt and covert surveillance of property and assets
Promote workplace safety such as (but not limited to):
Identification of hazards
Risk management
Incident reporting
Confidential reporting
Compliance monitoring
Report on Acts of Unlawful Interferences, and other security lapses
Gather and disseminate intelligence to prevent illegal activities
Ensure effective investigations, per laid down procedures, which guarantee business continuity as investigations continue
Ensure internal investigations are conducted quickly and efficiently, to maintain best business practices
Ensure investigations are conducted using an SOPs where pilferage, and other losses, such as excess baggage weight theft, misuse of company property, etc. are all investigated and appropriate action taken in the shortest amount of time
Manage investigation process to conform with Regulatory requirements and within a specified timeframe
Undertake regular adhoc risk assessment assignments, and recommend preventive measures based on actual observed behaviours
Using best industry practices, research, develop and update current SOP’s, and other security related documents to achieve the standard required
Update an AVSEC Incident Database and maintain same to current status
Ensure staff compliance to Regulatory Agency requirements such as KCAA, ISAGO an IATA standards
Collate, analyze, and maintain daily security operational performance and incident data for review on a daily and monthly dashboard report
Prepare and make Weekly/Monthly/Quarterly reports as directed by the Security Manager
Be flexible to work at various odd times and shift patterns to meet position objectives

Education, Experience, Qualifications & Skills:
Must possess a Security related Training such as:
AVSEC Awareness
AVSEC Basic Course
Cargo & Mail Security
Aviation Security Management
Investigation and Forensics Training – Diploma
Ex-Police/Military/Armed Forces experience favoured
Effective Communication and Interpersonal Skills
Knowledge of Criminal Procedures Code, Evidence Act, the Penal Code and Labour Laws
Some knowledge of ERP (Emergency Response Planning) and the ability to make sound judgement based on presented evidence
4+ years’ experience in security investigations in a reputable company is required
