Job Group ‘K’
Duties and Responsibilities
Cleaning and bandaging patient wounds;
Track life support equipment like heart monitors;
Infuse blood products and monitor patients for a reaction;
Identify patients need according to age and level of consciousness and they create a care plan to make the health better;
Administer care to seriously ill patients;
Administer medications intravenously, by injection, orally, through gastric tubes, or by other methods;
Provide advanced nursing care and provide post-mortem care for patients in critical or coronary care units;
Advocate for patients’ and families’ needs, or provide emotional support for patients and their families;
Set up and monitor medical equipment and devices such as cardiac monitors, mechanical ventilators and alarms, oxygen delivery devices, transducers, and pressure lines;
Monitor patients’ fluid intake and output to detect emerging problems such as fluid and electrolyte imbalances;
Monitor patients for changes in status and indications of conditions such as sepsis or shock and institute appropriate interventions;
Identify patients who are at risk and prioritize nursing care for assigned critically ill patients based on assessment data and identified needs;
Assist physicians with procedures such as bronchoscopy, endoscopy, endotracheal intubation, and elective cardio version.
Requirements for appointment
Be a Kenyan citizen;
Be a Holder of a Higher Diploma in Critical Care Nursing or its equivalent from a recognized institution;
Minimum Three (3) years working experience as a critical/intensive care nurse;
Valid practicing license from Nursing Council of Kenya;
Current Registration as a critical / intensive care nurse;
Demonstrate administrative ability and competence in work performance;
Excellent communication, organizational and interpersonal skills;
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of County development objectives;
Proficiency in computer applications;
Have capacity to work under pressure to meet timelines;
Have ability to work in a multi-ethnic environment with sensitivity and respect for diversity;
Demonstrate understanding and commitment to the values and principles as outlined in Article 10 and 232 of the Constitution of Kenya;
