Key Objectives and Responsibilities
Litigation
Ensure that all litigation matters, and legal claims are expeditiously handled;
Liaising with and managing external lawyers on outstanding litigation matters and monitoring the progress of the matters in court;
Initiate out of court settlements where the circumstances warrant amicable settlement;
Preparing and presenting to the Board Committee quarterly updates on Litigation;
Ensuring quarterly meetings are held by Group Litigation Committee.
Legal Risk Policy
Implementation of the legal risk policy and conduct awareness for staff;
Support in preparation, review and execution of contractual instruments to assist and support various business activities and ensure the company’s interests are protected;
Maintain an organization wide contract repository;
Ensuring that all aspects of legal risks are identified and mitigated in the implementation of new projects, e.g. IFS model implementation, harmonisation of strategic partnerships across the group, new and alternative distribution channels, integrated branches, etc.
Property Strategy
Support in preparation and review of Letters of Offer and Leases to prospective tenants of the various properties;
Liaising with external lawyers providing conveyancing services on the various properties on registration of the leases, etc.
Providing legal guidance as required on implementation of the property strategy.
Product Legal Risk Policy
Ensuring review of product documentation to ensure legal risks are identified and mitigated.
Staff loan securitization
Provide guidance on documentation of the staff loan process and ensure implementation;
Liaise with external lawyers to ensure expeditious securitization of the staff loans;
Provide support to all stakeholders to ensure smooth process for loan documentation/securitization and disbursement of funds.
Knowledge & Experience
Given the increasingly complex legal and control environment with stringent compliance requirements, the candidate is required to have the following qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree of Laws (LL.B) from a recognized University
Post Graduate Qualifications – Diploma in Law
Must be an Advocate with a valid practicing certificate
Over 5 years’ relevant experience
Having Certified Secretary (CS) qualification or the making of significant strides to achieve the same will be an added advantage.
