Director General

Job Description/Requirements

The Authority is seeking to recruit a highly competent, proactive and self–driven individual to fill the position of the Director General. The Director General shall be the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary to the Board of the Authority and shall bear the responsibility for the day-to-day management of the Authority.

Reporting to the Board of Directors, the Director General shall:

Be responsible for the overall operations of the Authority;
Advise the Board and Government on all matters relating to the implementation of the Industrial Training Act;
Be the Accounting Officer of the Authority;
Develop and recommend to the Board the long term strategy, business plans and annual operating budgets; and establish proper internal monitoring and control systems and procedures;
Coordinate and prepare business related proposals, reports and other submissions for consideration by the Board;
Generate sufficient alternatives to inform Board decision making;
Provide regular, thorough and prompt communication to the Board on key technical, financial and administrative matters;
Be responsible for stakeholder management and enhancement of the corporate image of the Authority;
Ensure that there is effective communication between the Management and the Board as well as between different levels of management;
Provide leadership to the management;
Ensure continuous improvement in the quality and value of services and products provided by the Authority;
Ensure continuous achievement of the Authority’s financial and operating goals and objectives;
Oversee and ensure implementation of corporate policies and programs;
Maintain a conducive work environment for attracting, retaining, and motivating employees;
Foster a corporate culture that promotes ethical practices and good corporate citizenship;
Serve as the spokesperson of the Authority on operational matters;
Ensure compliance with the laws of the Country;
Coordinate all regional offices;and
Perform any other duties as may be necessary to achieve the Authority’s objectives as set out in the Industrial Training Act.

The successful applicant should possess extensive leadership and managerial experience of at least fifteen (15) years, five (5) of which must be in senior management. He/she must possess a degree in engineering, technology, administration, finance, technical or industrial education, from a recognized university; and must be affiliated to a professional body. Candidates with post graduate qualifications will have an added advantage. The ideal candidate should also demonstrate in-depth knowledge and a clear understanding of industrial training.
