It is important that any gender strategy be premised upon the insights of children living in conflict-affected areas within Sub-Saharan Africa. Any programme for children should place children at the centre of decision making and design. By engaging children in the first gender analysis we set a precedent for ensuring diverse children’s voices are heard throughout the course of the implementation. Children should therefore be facilitated to participate meaningfully in decisions that affect them. From an accountability perspective, it will be important for the Protecting Children in Conflict (PCiC) programme to allow for course correction to ensure that children confirm that the programme is addressing the gendered implications of conflict as experienced by them.
Save the Children’s Regional Programming Unit, Protecting Children Affected by Armed Conflict in Sub Saharan Africa Programme requires the provision of services for graphics art to turn research data collected from children (through body mapping and community mapping) during the Gender Research Analysis into child friendly graphic visuals.
