Role Purpose
As the Arts Manager, you will support the East Africa Arts Programme Managers and the wider British Council team, to deliver an engaging East Africa Arts programme including key areas of work as required across Kenya that works to British Council’s East Africa Arts programme and builds knowledge and understanding between the UK and East Africa.
Challenges & Accountabilities
This role requires a clear understanding of project management, team management and leadership skills and the ability to contribute to planning and strategy of the East Africa Arts programmes in order to deliver effectively. You will make a major contribution to the successful of the British Council’s East Africa Arts programme and ensure effective delivery and impact of the East Africa Arts programme. You will be responsible for supporting communication strategies as well as building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders in the cultural scene and beyond including the private sector, media and donor organisations. The post holder will maintain records and reports for all programme activities using the British Council and should have strong attention to details. You will have clear communications skills and the ability to reach new audiences for the Arts programme through the delivery of digital and print communications strategies across Kenya and the UK. You will also manage Kenya digital arts content and coordinate with Programme Managers East Africa to ensure content is well communicated across East Africa social media and press channels and share content from the East Africa Arts programmes in Kenya with internal stakeholders. As with any business that experiences peaks and troughs of activity, there is likely to be a need to work outside office hours from time to time.
Essential Requirements
The successful candidate will need to possess the following requirements:
Relevant post-secondary school qualification or comparable experience
Good knowledge and use of social media for the promotion of cultural activities;
Strong organisational skills and attention to detail;
Ability to work effectively with tight deadlines.
Be proficient in spoken and written English
Experience of complex project management
Experience of financial and narrative reporting
Experience of monitoring and evaluation
Experience of working with arts sector
Desirable Requirements
Degree in relevant field
Have an innovative approach to the use of digital and social media to connect audiences.
Experience of working with both large and small organisations
