Digital Media Consultant

Overview of the position:

 

Our client supports govt. institutions in Somalia to promote good governance, accelerate economic recovery & strengthen human capital. The Multi Partner Fund (MPF) provides a platform for coordinated financing for sustainable reconstruction & development in Somalia. Administered by our client, the MPF operates as a window within the Somalia Development & Reconstruction Facility (SDRF) & supports the National Development Plan (NDP).

The Country Management Unit (CMU) is hiring a Somali speaking Digital Media Consultant to support the MPF’s digital media engagement, including multimedia content development, social media content development & media monitoring.

Role objective:

The Consultant will work with the Communications Officer to provide various multimedia deliverables for online audiences.

Specifically, the objectives are:

To work with the Communications Officer to create multimedia content for social media platforms (Twitter & Facebook).
To work with the Communications Officer to curate the digital presence of our client in Somalia.
To conceptualize, write, shoot & edit digital content.
To monitor & report emerging issues related to our client in a timely manner.
To monitor & measure our client’s social media engagement based on agreed KPI’s, including but not limited to content performance, engagement rates, impressions, brand follower growth & Cost Per Result (CPR).

Deliverables:

At least 1 results video per month. Both raw footage & an edited 2 – 3-minute version for social media & our clients webpage use.
At least 10 photos per month coverage at least 2 sectors. These should be edited captioned & available in RAW, PNG & JPEG files.
Develop a social media engagement plan for review & approval. To include increased followers for the Somalia MPF Twitter handle, identify, development of engaging content, identify & use a social media performance tool for social media performance with monthly performance reports.
Conduct daily media monitoring of developments in Somalia that could impact our clients engagement in Somalia. Flag breaking news as they emerge.
Flag political economy issues.

Project reporting:

The Consultant will report to the Senior Operations Officer & work closely with the Somalia Communications Officer.

Team management:

This role has no team management responsibility.

Geographical experience:

Minimum of 5 year of experience in Africa (essential).

Languages:

Fluency in English and Somali are essential

Required skills & experience:

Bachelor’s Degree in Communications, Journalism or equivalent.
Experience in videography, photography & social media management would be an added advantage.
At least 5 years work experience related to the above may be considered in lieu of a degree.
Minimum 3 years of relevant work experience in multimedia & social media content development, including 2 years for national or international development institutions.
Excellent knowledge of the media political economy in Somalia, including knowledge of key stakeholders, influencers & sensitivities.
Excellent written & verbal skills in English; strong written & verbal skills in Somali.
Experience using videography & photography, multimedia editing & graphic design software, such as Adobe Illustrator, Adobe Photoshop, Adobe Flash, Final Cut or other equivalents.
Strong ability to communicate development processes & results to national & regional audiences.

Competencies:

Excellent written & oral communication skills.
Ability to produce high quality digital content & manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.

Other relevant information:

The assignment will take 30 days to complete between October 2020 & January 2021.
The Consultant is expected to work 6 to 10 days per month.
